Surah al-Saff (Surah 61: Revelation order 109)

There is none in the heavens and the earth who do not glorify God

  • Glorifies God whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. And He is the Almighty, the Wise (61:1).
  • Note: Here is a reminder for us to make our effort to glorify God being the Almighty, the Wise like everyone who does it in the heavens and the earth.

God hate those who cannot keep their promise

  • O you who have believed, why do you say what you do not do? (61:2). It has been a great hatred with God that you say what you do not do (61:3). Indeed, God loves those who fight in His way being a column as if they are a joined structure (61:4).
  • Note: God hates those who cannot keep their promise but He loves those who fight in His way together against the disbelievers.

Moses and Jesus were messengers of God to the people of Israel

  • And when Moses said to his people, “O my people, why do you hurt me, while certainly, you know that I am a messenger of God to you?” Then when they had deviated, God had deviated their hearts, and God does not guide the people, the disobedient (61:5). And when Jesus, son of Mary said, “O Children of Israel, indeed, I am a messenger of God to you confirming that which was before of me of the Torah, and a bearer of good news of a messenger to come after of me – his name to be Ahmad.” Then when he (Muhammad) had come to them with the clear proofs, they said, “This is a clear magic.” (61:6).
  • Note: Moses had come to the people of Israel who had deviated, and after him Jesus had come to them with a confirmation of the Torah and a bearer of good news of a messenger after him, but when he had come to them with the clear proofs, they said it a clear magic what he had been sent with, while we know that Muhammad had not come with any visible miracle as given to Moses and Jesus except the message sent down to him wherein there is surely a mercy and a reminder (dhik’raa) for a people to believe as found in (29:50-51).

God does not guide the wicked people

  • And whoever is more unjust than whoever has invented the lie about God, while he is invited to the Submission? And God does not guide the wicked people (61:7). They intend to put out a light of God with their mouths, while God is perfecting His light, even though has disliked the disbelievers (61:8).
  • Note: Even the disbelievers are invited to submit to God but they invent lies about Him to put out His light.

The believers should strive in a way of God with wealth and lives

  • He is the One who has sent His messenger with the guidance and a religion of the truth to make it prevail over the religion of any of it, even though has disliked the idol worshipers (61:9). O you who have believed, should I guide you to a trade to save you from a painful punishment? (61:10). You will believe in God and His messenger and will strive in a way of God with your wealth and your lives. That is better for you, if you have done to know (61:11). He will forgive your sins for you, and will admit you to gardens flowing the rivers of their underneath, while there will be pleasant dwellings in gardens of Eden. That is the greatest success (61:12). And another blessing you will love it is a help from God and a near victory. Give good news to the believers (61:13).
  • Note: God has sent His messenger (message) with the guidance and a true religion to make it prevail over any other religions, and the believers will believe in God and His messenger and should strive in a way of God with their wealth and lives to be guided to a trade to save from a painful punishment expecting pleasant dwellings in gardens of Eden flowing the rivers underneath them.

The believers are helpers of messengers towards God

  • O you who have believed, you shall be helpers of God like that Jesus, son of Mary said to the disciples, “Who are my helpers towards God,” The disciples said, “We are helpers of God.” Then a group of Children of Israel had believed, and a group had disbelieved. So we had helped those who had believed against their enemy, so they had been dominant (61:14).
  • Note: The believers are helpers of messengers towards God to be dominant over the disbelievers, which is the system comes down from the past.

Review of Surah al-Saff (The Column), which is a short surah consisting of 14 verses may help us to understand that God has sent His messenger (message) with the guidance and a true religion to make it prevail over any other religions, and the believers will believe in God and His messenger to make their efforts to strive in a way of God with their wealth and lives to be guided to save them from a painful punishment expecting pleasant dwellings in gardens of Eden, while God has made the believers, who were helpers of messengers towards Him were dominant over the disbelievers at all generations of people.
Peaceful Friday, salaam and God bless.
