Surah al-A`a’laa (Surah 87: Revelation Order 8)

God is our Lord being Creator of us and whatever is around us

  • You (Muhammad) shall glorify your Lord’s name, the High (87:1). The One who has created, then He has designed (87:2). And the One who has measured, then He has guided (87:3). And the One who has produced the pasture (87:4). Then He has made it dark stubble (87:5).
  • Note: God has directed His servant (Muhammad) to glorify Him to be his Lord mentioning Himself being in the High who has created and designed us. Then He has determined laws and limits how He will guide us, while He has also created green grassland for animal, which He has made it brown overtime.

God has given a reminder to Muhammad what he has recited to people

  • We will make you (Muhammad) to recite that you do not forget (5:6), except what God wills; indeed, He knows the declaration and what remains hidden (87:7). And we will make ease for you to the ease (87:8). So, you shall remind that the reminder has brought benefit (87:9).
  • Note: God has let His prophet know that He will make him to recite being Knower of the seen and the unseen making it easier for him to remind so that the reminder will benefit the people.

Losers are the wicked and winners are the purifiers

  • He will pay heed whoever fears (God) (87:10). And will avoid it the wretched one (87:11). The one who will burn in the fierce Fire (87:12). Then he will neither die in it, nor will he live (87:13). Certainly, he has succeeded whoever has purified himself (87:14). And he has remembered his Lord’s name, while he has prayed (87:15).
  • Note: Those who fear God have succeeded purifying themselves through remembering and praying to their Lord paying attention to the reminder but those who avoid the reminder will burn in the fierce fire wherein they will neither die nor will they remain alive.

People prefer the life of the world to the life of the Hereafter

  • Nay, you have preferred the life of the world (87:16). While the Hereafter is better and everlasting (87:17). Indeed, this is surely in the earlier scriptures (87:18). Scriptures of Abraham and Moses (87:19).
  • Note: It is from the earlier times that people have given priority to the life of the world than the life of the Hereafter even God has confirmed the Hereafter is better mentioning it in the scripture given to Abraham and Moses.

Surah al-A `a’laa (Surah 87: The High) is an earlier revelation, and the sum of surah number and revelation order is a multiple of 19 [87 + 8] = 95 (19X5), and the surah is a short surah consisting of 19 simple verses. God is the High whose Highness is unimaginable to us being above the 7th heaven has created and designed us to glorify Him, while He has sent down a reminder to His prophet to recite it to the people to purify themselves remembering and praying to their Lord paying attention to the reminder. Thus, those who have prepared themselves paying attention to the reminder given to Muhammad keeping in mind that the life of Hereafter is better than the life of the world have succeeded, but those who have avoided the reminder will burn in the fierce fire wherein they will neither die nor will they remain alive, while it is a God’s system from the past, which has been mentioned in the earlier scripture given to Abraham and Moses as well.
Peaceful Friday, salaam and God bless.
