There are confusions and controversies around the birth and the death of Jesus, son of Mary, while the Quran has confirmed both birth and death of Jesus. There is a fact-based confirmation of the birth of Jesus from the Quran from the equality in creation of Jesus and Adam as they both have been mentioned 25 times by name in it, while it has been described in it that the creation of Jesus has been as like as that of Adam as per God is concern (3:59). Since Adam had died and all human beings are made mortal (3:145), then we do not have any room to think that Jesus had not died. But there are made up stories around us about his death that God had raised him and his second coming will be a sign that the end of the world has come closer. But the Quran has given us details not to have any trace of doubt in our hearts about the death of Jesus and his second coming is a myth:
Details from the Quran
God has given us Quran, a scripture with knowledge of guidance and mercy (7:52) to inquire and resolve any disputes around us (39:18), and that the death of Jesus and his second coming can be addressed going through the following verses of it to confirm the death of Jesus and his second coming being a myth not to have any doubt:
- Death is a determined decree and every person will die by God’s permission, and none can escape the death, even if anyone is in high-rise towers, the death will overtake him:
[56:60] We have decreed the death among yourselves, and we are not to be of outrunners.
[3:145] And it has not been for a soul that it dies except by God’s permission, is a determined decree. And whoever desires reward of the world, we give him from it, and whoever desires reward of the Hereafter, we give him from it. And we will reward the grateful ones.
[3:185] Every soul will be tasting of the death, and you will only be paid in full your reward on a Day of the Resurrection. Then whoever has been pulled away from the Fire and has been admitted into the Paradise, then certainly, he has succeeded. And the life of the world is not but an enjoyment of the delusion.
[4:78] Wherever you would be, the death overtakes you, even if you have been in high-rise towers. And if any good befalls them, they say, “This is from God,” while if any bad befalls them, they say, “This is from you”. Say, “All is from God.” What is for these people that they seem not to understand a statement?
- God has confirmed that the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary was a messenger of God, and passed away the messengers before him with an indication that he will die either:
[4:171] O people of the scripture, you do not exceed in your religion, nor do you say about God except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary was indeed a messenger of God, and His word He had sent to Mary, and a spirit from Him. So, you shall believe in God and His messengers. You do not say, “Trinity.” You shall refrain, which is better for you. God is only One god; glory is His that there would be a son for Him! To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. And God has sufficed as a Disposer of affairs.
[5:75] The Messiah, son of Mary was not but a messenger; certainly, had passed away the messengers before himself, and his mother was a saint. They both had done to eat the food. You shall see how we have made clear the revelations for them, then you shall see how they are deviated.
- God has confirmed that Muhammad was a messenger of God, and had passed away the messengers before him with an indication that he will die either. In addition, the death of the messengers before him also confirms the death of Jesus who had been a messenger to the Children of Israel before him leaving no room to have any confusion about the death of Jesus:
[3:49] And a messenger to Children of Israel (said): “Indeed, I (Jesus) certainly, have come to you with a sign from your Lord that I can create for you from the clay like a shape of the bird, then I can breathe into it that it becomes a bird by God’s permission. And I can cure the blind and the leper, and can give life to the dead by God’s permission. And I can inform you of what you eat and what you store in your homes. Indeed, in that there is surely, a sign for you, if you have been believers.
[3:144] And Muhammad is not but a messenger; certainly, had passed away the messengers before himself. So, if had he died or had he been killed, you would have turned back on your heels? And whoever turns back on his heels, then he does not hurt God in anything, while God will reward the grateful ones.
Note: In the verse 3:49 of surah Aal Imran God has mentioned Jesus who had come to the Children of Israel as a messenger with profound signs, and in the verse 3:144 of the same surah 95 verses down He has mentioned Muhammad as a messenger and the messengers who had come before himself had passed away confirms the death of Jesus, a messenger to the people of Israel, while 95 (19x5) being multiple of 19 is a mathematical confirmation to have an explicit proof not to have any confusion about the death of Jesus.
- When the disbelievers had plotted against Jesus to kill him, then God also had planned to save him, while He is the best Planner. He had terminated his life and had raised him to Him to get rid of the disbelievers, and had promised his believers to make them superior over the disbelievers on a day of the Resurrection:
[3:54] And they had plotted while God has planned and God is the best planner.
[3:55] When God said, “O Jesus, indeed, I am your Terminator of life and your Raiser to Me, and your Purifier from those who have disbelieved, and I am a maker of superior those who have followed you (Jesus) to those who have disbelieved on a day of the Resurrection. Then to Me is all your return that I will judge between yourselves in what you have done to differ in it.
- The Jews were made to think that they had killed or had crucified the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary but God has made it sure that they had not killed him, while He had raised him to Him. No one from a people of the scripture believes in him before his death, and on a day of the Resurrection he will be a witness against them, which is also a clear indication that Jesus, son of Mary will not come back except on a day of the Resurrection:
[4:157] And it has been their saying, “indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, a messenger of God.” And they have not killed him, nor have they crucified him but it has been made so for them. And indeed, those who have differed in it, are surely in doubt about it. There is no knowledge of it for them except following the assumption, while certainty is they have not killed him.
[4:158] Nay, God has raised him to Him; and God has been Almighty, Wise.
[4:159] And there was not from a people of the scripture except surely, he believes in him before his death. And on a Day of the Resurrection, he would be a witness against them.
- It has not only been confirmed the death of Jesus but has also been made it clear any possibility of his second coming except a myth as the dead cannot come back until a day of the Resurrection:
[5:117] I (Jesus) have not said to them except what You have commanded me with it that you shall worship God, my Lord and your Lord, and I have been a witness over them so long as I have been among them; then when You had put me to death, You have been the Watcher over them, and You are a Witness over everything.
[19:33] And the peace upon me (Jesus) a day I have been born, and a day I die, and a day I will be raised to life.
Conclusion
Death is a determined decree and none can escape it. There is specific mention of the death of the messengers before Jesus as well as messengers before Muhammad, while both Jesus and Muhammad were messengers of God, which is a clear indication that the messengers will die and there is no exception for them to escape death. God had raised Jesus to Him as there is no real death for the righteous except for the first death (44:56), while the disbelievers have two deaths (40:11). The Jews had been made to think that they had killed or crucified Jesus which means that they had tortured his body after his death or after leaving of his soul from his body. Jesus obeyed his Lord’s command and asked his disciples to worship God what he witnessed as long as he had been among them but after him God has been Watcher over them is a direct evidence that he would not come back before a day of the Resurrection when the souls will be reinstated into bodies (81:7). However, God has blessed us to have confirmation from both literal and a derived fact about the birth and death of Jesus, while He has made him a portent to know when the world will end (43:61).
The Quran makes very clear about the death of Jesus, while his second coming is a myth but many people are not sure about that being disbelievers in God and His revelations due to satanic trick, while there are people who have divided the religion given by God disputing in different matters despite His warnings (6:159, 30:32, 42:3). They do not prepare them for the Hereafter seeking for an abode of the peace at their Lord reflecting on teachings of the Quran, even though they are proud of what they are doing crowded to the masjids not being the places of worship dedicating the prayer to God alone. Thus, those who wish to prepare themselves for the Hereafter should make their efforts to avoid those divisions and mixing of their faith with wrongs (6:82), and they can only do it God willing, by studying the Quran carefully having no contradiction (4:82) and following a word of an honorable messenger to be obeyed being trustworthy from the Possessor of the Throne (81:19-21).
Peaceful Friday, salaam and God bless.
