Introduction
God has repeatedly mentioned in the Quran that Quran is guidance, clear guidance, statute book, mercy, healing, good news, reminder, warner, warning, illuminating lamp and caller to God providing clear proofs as well as clarifying its verses for the people who have believed. Hence, to those who believed in God, His guidance should be enough to stay in the straight path through appropriate beliefs and perfect practices decreed by Him. But it is unfortunate that many of us who claim that they believed in God, even in His guidance are not able to find it to be enough for what they need to become righteous to Him. Guidance given by Him who has created us and who knows us better than we know ourselves would not be enough cannot be acceptable to any believer who has common sense. However, whatever can be thought of the root causes of desertion of the Quran for other sources is failing to find exact details what need to practice the rites decreed by God because of misinterpretation of certain verses as well as inappropriate reflection to many.
Reflection on certain divine teachings in the Quran
This study may help us to understand the root cause of desertion of Quran for other sources, even though God has made it a means to achieve righteousness with Him. Here are certain matters in the Quran how are dealt when the Quran is around us for more than 1400 years may help us to have a real picture:
Quran is a means to achieve righteousness
[2:1] (By) Alef.Laam.Meem.
[2:2] That scripture, there is no doubt in it, is a guidance for the righteous (lil’muttaqeen).
Note: This verse followed by an oath of God taking by referring to 3 letters of the Arabic alphabet confirms that this scripture (Quran) is a means for those who submit to God, then want to achieve His nearness through practices during the journey: Muslim -> Mu’min -> Muttaqeen reflected in many subsequent verses in the Quran including the verse mentioned below as an example:
[49:14] The Arabs said: “We have believed.” do not say: “You have believed”, but say: “We have submitted”, and the belief has not yet entered into your hearts. And if you obey God and His messenger, He will not deprive you any of your deeds. Indeed, God is Forgiving, Merciful.
Appreciation of God through Ramadan fasting for giving us Quran as guidance
[2:185] Ramadan which is a month, has been revealed in it the Quran as a guidance for the people, clear proofs of the guidance and the statute book. So whoever among you has witnessed the month, then he should fast in it, and whoever has been ill or on a journey then the prescribed number from other days. God wishes ease for you and He does not wish hardship for you, and that you may complete the prescribed number, and that you may glorify God through which He has guided you and that you may appreciate.
Note: Fasting is decreed during the month of Ramadan to glorify God to be thankful to Him for giving us guidance to reach our goal and to complete the prescribed number of days in other months if someone is sick or on a journey while we have to reflect to the fact that we must study, understand and follow the Quran through which we have been guided to have real benefit even from fasting too.
[2:187] It has been made lawful for you the approach to your women in a night of the fasting. They are garments for you and you are garments for them. God knows that you have committed to deceive yourselves, so He has turned to you and has had mercy on you. So now you shall approach them and shall seek what God has prescribed for you. And you shall eat and drink until the white thread becomes distinct from the black thread of the dawn; then you shall complete the fast until the night. And you should not approach them while you are secluded in the masjids. That is of God’s limits, so you should not approach it. Thus that God makes clear His revelations for the people that they may fear (Him).
Note: This verse is an update of fasting being the existing practice permitting sexual relation between the fasting spouses during the nights of fasting if someone does not stay in the masjids for commemoration of God while details on how to fast is included in the verse. Even though there is a hint to stay in the masjids but not a specific order for us to stay in the masjids during the last 10 days of Ramadan except innovation, and to link to 10 nights from the items of God’s oath found in (89:2) to this invented last 10 days event makes no sense except misinterpretation.
Declaration of faith
[3:18] God has testified that there is no god except He, and so have done the angels and possessors of the knowledge established with the justice; there is no god except He – the Almighty, the Wise.
Note: Shahadah is a declaration of faith repeated in a number of verses in the Quran but it is a key verse that can be reflected to avoid the corrupt form of it appending Muhammad’s name as a messenger of God, even reflecting to the order given to Muhammad in this matter to see corrupt:
[47:19] So you (Muhammad) shall know that there is no god besides God (in Arabic, laa- ilaaha illaa allah), and you shall ask forgiveness of your sins and of the believing men as well as the believing women. And God knows your (all) return and reward.
Inspiration of the whole Quran into prophet’s soul
[53:8] Then He approached as He had come down.
[53:9] Thus, He had been at a closer distance or was nearer.
[53:10] Then He inspired to His servant what He had inspired.
Note: God Himself inspired the whole Quran into prophet’s soul in the highest horizon.
[44:3] Indeed, we have revealed it (scripture) in a blessed night, indeed, we are warning.
[44:4] In it (the blessed night), every matter of wisdom is clarified.
Note: Quran was placed (inspired) into prophet’s soul clarifying every matter in this night.
[97:1] Indeed, we have revealed it (Quran) in a Night of the Power.
[97:2] And do you know what a Night of the Power is?
[97:3] A Night of the Power is better than a thousand months.
[97:4] The angels and the Spirit (the Gabriel) descend therein (a Night of the Power), by their Lord’s leave, with every command.
[97:5] Peace it (the Night of Power) is until the advent of the dawn.
Note: This sura depicts the completion process of revealing the whole Quran involving the Gabriel and the angels indicating the significance of the night, which is better than a thousand months in the mathematical language but no ritual is decreed associated with the night while the annual observance of laylat al-qadr is an innovation.
Warning for the prophet but a reminder for us
[69:43] It is a revelation from Lord of the worlds.
[69:44] And if he (Muhammad) had uttered any other utterances (al-aqaaweeli).
[69:45] Certainly, we would have caught him up by the right hand.
[69:46] Then we would have certainly cut off the aorta (main artery) from him.
[69:47] Then no one from you could prevent him from (it).
[69:48] And indeed, this is surely a reminder (la’tadh’kiratun) for the righteous (lil’muttaqeena).
Note: Here is a warning for the prophet not to recite any teachings other than the Quran, which is a reminder for the righteous. So there should not have any doubt that collection of prophet’s sayings claimed as hadiths are made up stories and the prophet was innocent of it
Explanation of Quran is in the Quran
[75:16] You shall not move your (Muhammad) tongue with it (Quran) to hasten it.
[75:17] Indeed, upon us of its collection and its recitation.
[75:18] So when we have recited it, then you (Muhammad) shall follow its recitation.
[75:19] Then indeed, upon us of its clarification.
Note: The direct proof has reflected in the above verses that Quran has enough details and the prophet did not explain Quran with his own words except the false claim by the ignorant.
Studying Quran to understand its messages
[16:98] So, when you read the Quran, you shall seek refuge in God from Satan, the rejected.
Note: Satan will do his utmost to keep us away from the message to make us losers as our great enemy and we must pay proper attention when we read the Quran to know God’s teachings but just customary recitation of “I refuge in God from the Satan, the rejected” before recitation of the Quran does not make any sense while it is a misinterpretation introduced by the so called scholars.
[54:17] And certainly, we have made the Quran straightforward for the warning (wa-laqad yassarnaa al-qur’aana lil-dhikri). So, is there any who would have admonition?
Note: Emphasis has just been given in memorization of the Quran with a notion around us that it is difficult to understand while the memorization played an important role for verbal communication down the generations until having a standardized Quran in 1918 (printed in 1924) but studying it and knowing its messages are the objective and subject for all generations of people to follow it as guidance for all the people of the world while there are many warnings and examples in it not to fall into unpleasant situation.
[56:77] Indeed, this is undoubtedly an honorable Quran (innahu la-qur’aanun kareemun).
Note: God has ensured Quran to be honorable assigning one of His own attributes to it that we should value His words as they should be valued if we are really certain about the Hereafter to stay in the straight path expecting recompense from Him when we meet Him.
[56:78] In a protected book.
Note: God, the author of Quran has guaranteed to prevail the pure Quran at all of its phases: inspiration (the whole Quran that God Himself inspired to the prophet’s soul at the highest horizon), revelation (what the Gabriel brought piece by piece from God and recited to the prophet), recitation (what prophet received from the Gabriel and recited to the people) and scripture (written form of it).
[56:79] None can grasp (touch) it except the sincere (laa-yamassuhu illaa al-mut’haruuna).
Note: None can understand the Quran except the sincere but ablution (wudu) requires for reading the Quran is a myth while ablution only requires for observing the Salat prayer.
Divine promise to protect the Quran
[15:9] Indeed, we have sent down the reminder (Quran), and indeed, we are certainly protectors of it.
Note: The myth around us about the divine promise to protect the Quran from any distortions is the invisible force will come down to protect it when any extraneous materials are attempted to inject into it while we know now what is directly connected to this promise is the mathematical coding of Quran, which will serve to continue the purified Quran in the world removing any insertions occur down its communication.
[27:82] And when has fulfilled the punishment upon them, we have brought forth for them a creature from the earth speaks to them that the people have been with our revelations do not ascertain.
Note: The prophecy in the Quran to produce a creature from the earth for authenticity of the Quran to bring people back to the Quran when the majority people are away from God’s revelations what we know now is computer while there is a myth around us that it will be brought from Makkah, or from somewhere else. Its head is like the head of a bull, its eyes are like the eyes of a pig, its ears are like the ears of an elephant, its horns are like the horns of a stag, its neck is like the neck of an ostrich, its chest is like the chest of a lion, its colour is like the colour of a tiger, its haunches are like the haunches of a cat, its tail is like the tail of a ram, and its legs are like the legs of a camel. Is not the description shocking to a person who has common sense?
Advent of God’s messenger after delivery of all the scripture
[3:81] And when God has taken a covenant of the prophets: “Certainly, whatever I have given you of scripture and wisdom, then has come to you a messenger confirming that which is with yourselves. You must believe in him and you must support him.” He said: “Have you affirmed and taken My covenant on that?” They said: “We have affirmed.” He said: “Then you shall bear witness, and I am with you of the witnesses.”
Note: The Quran confirms that God has placed a covenant in every scripture that a messenger will be sent after the delivery of the scripture given to all the prophets.
[33:7] And when we have taken their covenant from the prophets, and from you (Muhammad), and from Noah, and Abraham, and Moses, and Jesus, son of Mary. And we have taken a solemn covenant from them.
Note: This verse indicates that the covenant mentioned in (3:81) has also been placed in the Quran, which is the final edition of God’s scripture.
[33:40] Muhammad has not been a father of anyone of your men but has had a messenger of God and a seal of the prophets, and God has done being Knower of everything.
Note: The core message in the verse is not Muhammad but the message given to him (Quran) is a messenger of God and seal of the prophets. This is not only the case but there are other instances of “rasuul” in the Quran that directly refer to the God’s message to be His messenger. Even though our understanding of Quran to be the last scripture is not incorrect but we fail to make its right interpretation for long because of personality cult in our beliefs and practices.
System given in the Quran to exist a pure Quran
[74:1] O you the hidden one.
[74:2] You shall stand up that you shall warn.
[74:3] And your Lord that you shall glorify.
[74:4] And your garments (Quran) that you shall purify.
[74:5] And the uncleanliness (extraneous) that you shall remove.
[74:6] And you should not expect to get beyond.
Note: There is hint in the above verses to remove what would be extraneous in the Quran in order to purify it, and uphold the purified message to commemorate God, and the purification will be done by the hidden one by His leave based on His given system in the Quran and the Quran is referred to be our garment while these verses are misinterpreted around the prophet referring to his garments, which does not make any sense when God is concerned.
Mathematical coding of Quran
[74:30] Over it is nineteen.
Note: A hint of 19-based mathematical coding of the Quran and a prophetic sign for the messenger who has been destined to unveil the code of the Quran by God’s leave.
[74:31] And we have not made guardians of the Fire except angels, and we have not made their number except a warning for those who disbelieved, that it may ascertain those who have been given the scripture (Jews and Christians) and may increase faith of those who have believed (Muslims), and may not doubt those who have been given the scripture (Jews and Christians) and the believers (Muslims). And that may say those in their hearts there is a disease (hypocrites) and the disbelievers, “What has God meant by this allegory?” Thus, God misguides whomever He wills and He guides whomever He wills. And none knows your Lord’s soldiers except He. And it is not except a reminder for the human race.
Note: Here is the hint of the mathematical coding of Quran. Both it (hiya) and a reminder (dhik’raa) in the last phrase of the verse are in the feminine form that make it different from the Quran, which is also a reminder (dhik’r) but in the masculine form.
Difference between prophet and messenger
[2:213] The people has been one community as God has raised up the prophets as bearers of good news and warners, and He has revealed with them the scripture with the truth that it may judge between the people in what they have differed in it. And has not differed in it except those who have been given it after what has come to them the clear proofs due to jealousy between themselves. Then God has guided those who have believed that which they have differed in it of the truth with His permission. And God guides whomever He wills to a straight path.
Note: Prophets are given scripture to deliver as defined in the verse while messengers are commissioned to deliver a particular piece of message specially mentioned in the scripture instead of the whole scripture as confirmed in 3:81. Thus, according to Quran all prophets are messengers but all messengers are not prophets while the prophet can be referred interchangeably between the person given the scripture and the scripture as well as the messenger between human messenger and God’s message.
Idolizing the prophet
[3:31] Say: “If you have committed you to love God, then you shall follow me (prophet); God will love you and He will forgive for you your sins.” And God is Forgiving, Merciful.
Note: There should not be any doubt that this order from God for the believers to follow the prophet for the message what has been sent down to him when he had a direct contact with the people as well as for the believers of the subsequent generations when he is no more among them. Hence, the order for us now to follow the message (Quran) what he left for us but none can find any logic to interpret it to be an order from God for the believers to follow his sayings or how he had dressed up or led his family life, even his sayings were not compiled rather than 150 years later after his death.
[33:56] Indeed, God and His angels support the prophet. O you who believe, you shall support him, and regard him as he should be regarded.
Note: This verse is the root cause of idolizing Muhammad, which has been misinterpreted to send blessings to him, even “Darud” was inserted into our 5 times Salat prayer while God has ordered the contemporary believers here to follow, support and respect the prophet when he was with them, and this order for us now is to follow the message (Quran) what he left for us. In addition, the word “prophet” is consistently used in reference to Muhammad in the Quran referring to him during his life not after his death.
How to respect messenger
[49:1] O you who have believed, you do not put forward ahead of God and His messenger. You shall fear God. Indeed, God is Hearer, Knower.
Note: Even though the messenger can be used interchangeably between human messenger and God’s message, while the God’s message must be given the preference to follow His commands and laws. Thus, the believers should not have any opinion and plan other than God and His messenger.
[49:2] O you who have believed, do not raise your voices above the voice of the prophet, nor shall you shout at him as you shout at each other, lest your works become nullified while you do not perceive.
[49:3] Surely, those who lower their voices at the messenger of God are the ones whose hearts are prepared by God to become righteous. They have deserved forgiveness and a great recompense.
Note: In 49:2-3 God has taught the contemporary believers how they should behave with the messenger during his lifetime. Obviously, they could not possibly raise their voices above the prophet’s voice as his voice has been God’s words.
[49:4] Indeed, those who call you (Muhammad) from behind the walls, most of them do not understand.
Note: It is also a God’s teaching for the contemporary believers to respect the messenger when he was alive and it was not befitting for the believers to call the prophet from the other side of the wall being a leader and a fatherly figure among them.
Reconciliation of disputes between spouses
[4:34] The men are supporters of the women because of that God has given them responsibility over others, and because of that they have spent from their money. So, the righteous women are obedient of guarding in private of what God has guarded. And those whom (women) you fear of their rebellion, then you shall advise them, and shall abandon them in the bed, and shall disregard them. So if they have obeyed you, then you should not seek a way against them; indeed, God is High, Great.
[4:128] And if a woman has feared from her husband rebellion or desertion, then there is no sin for both of them that they make a reconciliation between themselves, and the reconciliation is best, and has been swayed the souls of the greed. And if you do good and fear (God), then indeed, God has been Cognizant of what you do.
Note: God has stated the steps of reconciliation: advice, desertion in bed and complete desertion, when there are disputes between spouses but there is no indication for using the physical force in marriage except misinterpretation of the Arabic word, id’ribuuhunna in (4:34) from the multiple meaning root word, daraba, which means cover, ignore, desert, beat, strike and so on.
Women’s dress code
[24:31] And tell the believing women to subdue their eyes and maintain their chastity. They shall not reveal their body parts except what is needed. They shall place covers over their chests and shall not expose except to their husbands, their fathers, the fathers of their husbands, their sons, the sons of their husbands, their brothers, the sons of their brothers, the sons of their sisters, other women, the male servants or employees whose sexual drive has been nullified, or the children who have no knowledge of private body parts of the women. They shall not strike their feet when they walk in order to shake and reveal any private parts of their bodies. You all shall repent to God, O you believers so that you may succeed.
Note: This verse is the root cause of misconception about the dress code of women, and head covering becomes a fashion as religious observant. The words, “Yadribna” comes from the root word “Daraba” (verb) meaning to beat, strike, cover, set up, travel, take away, give, get out, draw over, separate etc. and “Khumurihinna” comes from the root word “Khimar” (noun) meaning cover or any cover along with a prefixed “Bi” means in, with or by in the verse and zeenatahunna or zeenatihinna comes from the root word, “zeena” meaning women body parts translating to ornaments or adornment while the Arabic counter part of ornament is “zukhruf”.
Conclusion
Review is done reflecting to the following matters/events to find the causes of desertion of the Quran for other sources as teachings of Islam: (1) Quran as a means to achieve righteousness, (2) expressing gratefulness to God for giving us the clear guidance, (3) declaration of faith, (4) inspiration of the whole Quran, (5) prophet recited nothing but the Quran, (6) explanation of Quran is in the Quran, (7) studying Quran to understand its messages, (8) divine promise to protect the Quran, (9) advent of a messenger after Muhammad, (10) system in the Quran to exist a pure Quran, (11) difference between prophet and messenger, (12) idolizing the prophet, (13) how to respect messenger, (14) women’s dress code and (15) reconciliation of disputes between spouses.
It is clear from the review that the causes of desertion of the Quran for other sources as teachings of Islam by the majority who claim them Muslims or Islamic scholars are because of misinterpretation and inappropriate reflection to many verses of the Quran. If they could reflect to the infinite wisdom of God, they would not fall into such situation to make them defiant or make other losers. So, we are being deceived by the ignorant scholars for disregarding the ways and means given by God being aware of our all needs to be righteous to Him. Thus, those who are mocking God gathering around the monasteries are the criminals in the eye of God and if we can avoid them and what they advocate, we may expect to be guided to take initiatives to practice His region in a right way according to His guidance to please Him to be rewarded by Him.
Peaceful Friday, salaam and God bless.
Tafazzal (2/22/2019).
