Review of instances of jaa-a (جَآءَ) in the Quran part II

There are 277 instances of jaa-a (جَآءَ) in verb form meaning “to come” in the Quran excluding the instance in the verse, 9:128 which does not belong to the purified Quran. Here are 55 instances of jaa-a found in 53 verses across 5 surahs in the Quran are detailed out below:

[7:4] And how many of a town we have destroyed it as there had come to it our punishment by night or they were at resting (fa-jaa-ahaa basunaa bayaatan aw qaailuuna)?

[7:5] Then it has not been their plea when there had come to them our punishment except that they said (idh jaa-ahum basunaa illaa anna qaaluu): “Indeed, we have been wrongdoers.”

[7:34] And for each community there is a term. So when there has come their term (fa-idhaa jaa-a ajaluhum), they cannot seek to delay an hour, nor can they seek to advance.

[7:37] So, who is more evil than whoever has invented a lie about God, or has denied in His revelations? Those – there reaches them their portion of the record until when has come to them our messengers (angels of death) to put them in death (hattaa idhaa jaa-athum rusulunaa yatawaffawnahum), they said, “Where is whomever you have done to invoke other than God?” They said, “They have strayed from us,” and they have borne witness against themselves that they have been disbelievers.

[7:43] And we have removed whatever of malice is in their breasts. There flows the rivers of their underneath, and they have said, “All praise belongs to God Who has guided us to this, and we have not been to be guided if not that God had guided us. Certainly, there had come messengers of our Lord with the truth (laqad jaa-at rusulu rabbinaa bil-haqqi).” And they have been addressed, “that is the Paradise you have been made to inherit it for what you have done to accomplish.”

[7:52] And certainly, we had brought to them of a scripture (wa-laqad ji’naahum bi-kitaabin) we have explained it with knowledge of guidance and mercy for a people to believe.

[7:53] Do they wait except for its fulfillment? A day comes its fulfillment will say those who had forgotten it before, “Certainly, there had come messengers of our Lord with the truth (qad jaa-at rusulu rabbinaa bil-haqqi). so are there any intercessors for us that they could intercede for us, or are we sent back that we can do other than that which we had done to accomplish?” Certainly, they have lost their souls, and there has strayed from them for what they had done to invent.

[7:63] “While have you wondered that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from you (jaa-akum dhik’run min rabbikum `alaa rajulun minkum) that he may warn you, and that you may fear, and that you may be given mercy?”

[7:69] “While have you wondered that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from you (jaa-akum dhik’run min rabbikum `alaa rajulun minkum) that he may warn you? And you shall remember when He has made you successors after a people of Noah, and has increased you in a number of the creation. So, you shall remember God’s blessings so that you may succeed.”

[7:70] They said, “Have you come to us that we would worship God alone (a-ji’tanaa li’na`buda allaha wah’dahu), and we abandon what has done to worship our forefathers? Then bring us of what you promise us, if you have been with the truthful.”

[7:73] And to Thamud their brother Salih. He said, “O my people, you shall worship God; there is no god for you other than Him. Certainly, there has come to you a clear proof from your Lord (qad jaa-at’kum bayyinatun min rabbikum). This is a she-camel of God is a sign for you. So, you shall leave her to eat in land of God, and you do not touch her with harm that a painful punishment seizes you.

[7:85] And to Madyan their brother Shuaib. He said, “O my people, you shall worship God; there is no god for you other than Him. Certainly, there has come to you a clear proof from your Lord (qad jaa-at’kum bayyinatun min rabbikum). So you shall give full the measure and the weight and you do not deprive of the people in their things, and you do not spread corruption in the earth after its reformation. That is better for you, if you have been believers.

[7:101] That is of the cities we narrate to you (Muhammad) a news of it. And certainly, there had come to them their messengers with the clear proofs (wa-laqad jaa-at’hum rusuluhum bil-bayyinaati), while they had not done to believe in what they had denied before. Thus that God places seal on hearts of the disbelievers.

[7:105] “It is an obligation upon me (Moses) that I do not say about God except the truth. Certainly, I have come to you with a clear sign from your Lord (qad ji’tukum bi-bayyinatin min rabbikum), so you shall send children of Israel with me.”

[7:106] He (Pharaoh) said, “If you have come with a sign (in kunta ji’ta bi-aayatin), then you shall  bring with it, if you have been of the truthful.”

[7:113] And there had come the magicians to Pharaoh (wa-jaa-a al-saharatu fir’`awna). They said, “Indeed, for us surely, there will be  a reward if we have been the winners.”

[7:116] He (Moses) said, “You shall throw.” Then when they had thrown, they bewitched eyes of the people and terrified them, and there had come with a great magic (wa-jaa-uu bi-sih’rin `azeemin).

[7:126] “And (magicians told Pharaoh) do not take revenge on us only for that we have believed in signs of our Lord when has come to us (illaa an aamannaa bi-aayaati rabbinaa lammaa jaa-at’naa). Our Lord, shower upon us patience and cause us to die as submitters.”

[7:129] They (people of Moses) said, “We have been harmed before that you come to us, and after that you have come to us (wa-min ba’di maa ji’tanaa).” He (Moses) said, “It may have been your Lord that He will destroy your enemy and will make you successors in the earth, then He will see how you do.”

[7:131] Then when there had come to them the good (fa-idhaa jaa-at’humu al-hasanatu), they said, “For us is this.” And if a bad afflicts them, they blame to Moses and whoever is with him. No doubt, their evil is only with God, but their majority do not know.

[7:143] And when Moses had come to our appointment (wa-lammaa jaa-a muusaa li’meeqaatinaa), and his Lord had spoken to him; he said, “My Lord, show me I can look at You.” He said, “You cannot see Me but look at the mountain, then if it has stayed in its place, then you can see Me.” Then when his Lord had revealed to the mountain, He made it crumbing to dust, and Moses fell down unconscious. Then when he had recovered, he said, “Glory is Yours, I have repented to You and I am first of the believers.”

[8:19] If you (disbelievers) seek for victory, then certainly, there has come to you the victory (fa-qad jaa-akumu al-fat’hu). And if you refrain, then it is good for you, but if you return, we will return; while your forces cannot help anything from you, even if it is numerous. And that God is with the believers.

[9:48] Certainly, they had sought dissension before and had turned upside down the matters for you until there had come the truth and had become evident God’s command (hattaa jaa-a al-haqqu wa-zahara amru allahi), while they are dislikers.

[9:90] And there has come those who make excuses of the Arabs to be permitted for them (wa-jaa-a al-mu`adhiruuna mina al-a`raabi li’yu’dhana lahum), and has sat those who had lied to God and His messenger. There will strive those who had  disbelieved among them a painful punishment.

[10:13] And certainly, we have destroyed the generations before yourselves when they had wronged and had come to them their messengers with the clear proofs (wa-jaa-at’hum rusuluhum bil-bayyinaati), and they had not done to believe. Thus that we recompense the people who are the criminals.

[10:22] He is the One who makes you to travel in the land, and the sea until when they have been in the ships, and they have sailed with a good wind and have rejoiced with it; there has come to it a violent wind (jaa-at’haa reehun `aasifun) and has come to them the waves from every place (wa-jaa-ahumu al-mawju min kulli makaanin) and they have assumed that they have been surrounded with them. They have called God being sincere to Him in the religion: “Surely, if You have saved us from this, we will surely be with the thankful ones.”

[10:47] And for every community there is a messenger. So, when there has come their messenger (fa-idhaa jaa-a rusuluhum), it has been judged between themselves with the justice, and they do not be wronged.

[10:49] Say, “I do not possess power of any harm nor of any benefit for myself  except what God wills.” For every nation there is a term. When there has come their term (idhaa jaa-a ajaluhum), then they cannot remain behind an hour, nor can they precede.

[10:57] O mankind, certainly there has come to you a direction from your Lord and a healing for what is in the breasts (qad jaa-at’kum maw’`izatun min rabbikum wa-shifaaun limaa fee al-suduuri), and guidance and mercy for the believers.

[10:74] Then we had raised messengers to their people after him (Noah) that they had come to them with the clear proofs (fa-jaa-uuhum bil-bayyinaati), while they had not done to believe in what they had denied in it before. Thus that we place seal on hearts of the transgressors.

[10:76] So, when there had come to them the truth from us (fa-lammaa jaa-ahumu al-haqqu min `indinaa), they said, “Indeed, this is surely a clear magic!”

[10:77] Moses said, “Would you say for the truth when it has come to you (a-taquuluuna lil’haqqi lammaa jaa-akum)? Is this magic? While the magicians could not succeed.”

[10:78] They said, “Have you come to us to turn us away from what we have found our forefathers on it (a-ji’tanaa li’tal’fitanaa ammaa `alayhi aabaa-anaa) and you would be for both the greatness in the earth? And we are not with believers for you two.”

[10:80] So when there had come the magicians (fa-lammaa jaa-a al-saharatu), Moses said to them, “Throw whatever you are going to throw.”

[10:81] Then when they had thrown, Moses said, “What you have come with it is the magic (maa ji’tum bihi al-sih’ru). Indeed, God will nullify it. Indeed, God does not set right a deed of the corrupters.”

[10:93] And certainly, we have settled children of Israel with an honorable settlement, and have provided them with the good things that they have not differed until there has come to them the knowledge (fa-maa ikh’talafuu hattaa jaa-ahumu al-`il’mu). Indeed, your Lord will judge between themselves on a day of the Resurrection in what they had done to differ in it.

[10:94] So if you (Muhammad) have been in doubt of what we have sent down to you, then you shall ask those who read the scripture before yourself. Certainly, there has come to you (Muhammad) the truth from your Lord (laqad jaa-aka al-haqqu min rabbika); so do not be with the doubters.

[10:97] Even if there has come to them every sign (wa-law jaa-at’hum kullu aayatin) until they see the painful punishment.

[10:108] Say, “O mankind; certainly, there has come to you the truth from your Lord (qad jaa-akumu al-haqqu min rabbikum). So whoever has been guided, then he only is guided for his soul; and whoever has gone astray, then he only goes astray against it, and I (Muhammad) am not over you of a guardian.”

[11:12] So you (Muhammad) may be one of giving up a part of what has been inspired to you, and being straightened one of your breast with it that they say: “Why has not been sent down a treasure with him, or has there (not) come an angel with him (aw jaa-a ma`ahu malakun)?” You are only a warner, and God is an Advocate over everything.

[11:40] Until when there had come our command (hattaa idhaa jaa-a amrunaa) and had overflowed the earth, we said, “You shall load in it a pair of two for each kind and your family except whoever has preceded the word against him, and whoever has believed.” and there had not believed with him (Noah) except a few.

[11:53] They said, “O Hud, you have not come to us with a clear proof (maa ji’tanaa bi-bayyinati), and we will not be of abandoning our gods from your saying, nor will we be with believers for you.

[11:58] And when there had come our command (wa-lammaa jaa-a amrunaa), we had saved Hud and those who had believed with him with a mercy from us, and we had saved them from a severe punishment.

[11:66] And when there had come our command (wa-lammaa jaa-a amrunaa), we had saved Saleh and those who had believed with him with a mercy from us and from a disgrace of that day. Indeed. your Lord – He is the Powerful, the Almighty.

[11:69] And certainly, there had come our messengers (angels) to Abraham with the good news (wa-laqad jaa-at rusulunaa ib’raaheema bil-bush’raa), they said, “Peace.” He said, “Peace,” then he had not delayed to bring a roasted calf.

[11:74] Then when it had gone away the fright from Abraham (fa-lammaa dhahaba `an ib’raaheema al-raw`u), and had reached him the good news, he argued with us about a people of Lut.

[11:76] “O Abraham, you shall turn away from this (argument). Indeed, it has certainly come a command of your Lord (innahu qad jaa-a amru rabbika), and indeed, there will be bringing to them a punishment cannot be a prevented one.”

[11:77] And when there had come our messengers (angels) to Lut (wa-lammaa jaa-at rusulunaa luutan), and he had been grieved for them and had felt discomfort for them, and said, “This is a distressful.”

[11:78] And there had come to him (Lut) his people rushing to him (wa-jaa-ahu qawmuhu yuh’ra`uuna ilayhi); and before they had been to do the evil deeds. He said, “O my people, these are my daughters, they are purer for you. So you shall fear God and do not disgrace me in presence of my guests. Has there not been a right-mined man among you?”

[11:82] So when there had come our command (fa-lammaa jaa-a am’runaa), we had made upside of it to downside of it, and we had showered upon it layers of stones from hard clay.

[11:94] So when there had come our command (fa-lammaa jaa-a am’runaa), we had saved Shuaib and those who had believed with him with mercy from us. And there had seized those who had wronged the thunder blast, then they had been fallen down in their homes.

[11:101] And we had not wronged them but they had wronged themselves. So, their gods had not helped them in anything, whom they call other than God when there had come command of your Lord (lammaa jaa-a am’ru rabbika), while they had not increased them other than loss.

[11:120] And each, we narrate to you (Muhammad) of a news of the messengers that we may make firm of your heart with it, and there has come to you in this the truth, and a direction, and a reminder for the believers (wa-jaa-aka fee haadhihi al-haqqu wa-maw’`izatun wa-dhik’raa lil’mu’mineena).
Peaceful Friday, salaam and God bless.
Tafazzal (11/10/2023).
