Review of instances of jaa-a (جَآءَ) in the Quran part I

There are 277 instances of jaa-a (جَآءَ) in verb form meaning “to come” in the Quran excluding the instance in the verse, 9:128 which does not belong to the purified Quran. Here are 61 instances of jaa-a found in 54 verses across 5 surahs in the Quran are detailed out below:

[2:71] He (Moses) said, “Indeed, He (God) says, indeed, it is a cow neither is in ploughing the land, nor to water the field, is sound having no blemish in it.” They said, “Now you (Moses) have come with the truth (al-ana ji’ta bil-haqqi).” So, they had slaughtered it, even they had not been near to do.

[2:87] And indeed, we have given Moses the scripture and have followed up after him with the messengers, and we have given Jesus, son of Mary the clear signs and have supported him with the Holy Spirit. Is it that every time a messenger has come to you with what does not desire your egos (a-fa-kullamaa jaa-akum rasuulun bimaa laa-tah’waa anfusukumu), you have been arrogant? So, a party of you have denied, and a party of you kill.

[2:89] And when there has come to them a scripture (Quran) from God (wa-lammaa jaa-ahum kitaabun min indi allahi), confirming what was with them, while they had done to pray for victory before over those who had disbelieved, then when there has come to them what they have recognized (fa-lammaa jaa-ahum maa `arafuu), they have disbelieved in it. So, God’s curse is on the disbelievers.

[2:92] And certainly has come to you Moses with the clear signs (wa-laqad jaa-akum muusaa bil-bayyinaati), then you had taken the cow after him and were wrongdoers.

[2:101] And when had come to them a messenger from God (wa-lammaa jaa-akum rasuulun min indi allahi), confirming that which was with them, a party of those who have been given the scripture, has thrown away God’s scripture behind their backs, as if they do not know.

[2:120] And neither the Jews, nor the Christians will be pleased from you, unless you follow their religion. Say, “Indeed, God’s guidance is the true guidance.” And surely, if you (Muhammad) had followed their wishes after what has come to you of the knowledge (ba’da alladhee jaa-aka mina al-`il’mi), there would have no protector or helper for you against God.

[2:145] And even if you (Muhammad) had brought to those who have been given the scripture with every sign, they would not have followed your direction of your prayer, and you will not be a follower of their direction of prayer, while not of them are followers of a direction of prayer to other. And surely if you had followed their desires after what has come to you (Muhammad) of the knowledge (min ba’di maa jaa-aka mina al-`il’mi), indeed, you then would be surely with the wrongdoers.

[2:209] So, if you had slipped after what has come to you the clear proofs (min ba’di maa jaa-at’kumu al-bayyinaatu), then you shall know that God is Almighty, Wise.

[2:211] You shall ask Children of Israel how many of the clear signs we had given them? And whoever changes God’s favor after what has come to him (wa-man yubaddil ni`mata allahi min ba’di maa jaa-at’hu), then indeed, God is severe in the retribution.

[2:213] Mankind had been a single community as God has raised up (from them) the prophets as bearers of good news and warners and has sent down with them the scripture with the truth to judge between the people in what they had differed in it. And none had differed in it except those who had been given it after what had come to them the clear proofs out of jealousy between themselves (min ba’di maa jaa-at’humu al-bayyinaatu baghyan baynahum). Then God has guided those who have believed that which they had differed in it of the truth with His permission. And God guides whoever He wills to a straight path.

[2:253] That is of the messengers, we had preferred of them over other. Of them there was whomever God had spoken to and He had raised of them in rank. And we had given Jesus, son of Mary, the clear proofs and had supported him with the Holy Spirit. And if God had willed, there would not have fought of those who were after them after what has come to them the clear proofs (min ba’di maa jaa-at’humu al-bayyinaatu); but they had differed – that of them there was whoever had believed and of them there was whoever had disbelieved. And if God had willed, they would not have fought, but God does whatever He wills.

[2:275] Those who consume the usury do not stand except like that the one who stands confounding him with the touch of the Satan. That is of that they say, “The trade is only like the usury,” while God has permitted the trade and has forbidden the usury. So, whomever has come to him admonition from his Lord (fa-man jaa-ahu maw’`izatun min rabbihi), then he has refrained (from the usury), then for him what has passed, and his matter is with God, while whoever has repeated (it), then those are companions of the Fire, they will be dwellers in it forever.

[3:19] Indeed, the religion with God is Submission; and it has not differed those who have been given the scripture except after what has come to them the knowledge out of jealousy between them (min ba’di maa jaa-ahumu al-`il’mu baghyan baynahum). And whoever disbelieves in God’s revelations, then indeed, God is swift in the reckoning.

[3:49] And (He will make him) a messenger to the Children of Israel (would say to them): “That I (Jesus) certainly have come to you with a sign from your Lord (anni-i qad ji’tukum bi-aayatin min rabbikum) that I can design for you from the clay like a shape of the bird, then I will breathe into it, so it will become a bird by God’s permission. And I can cure the blind and the leper, and can give life to the dead by God’s permission. And I can inform you of what you eat and what you store in your homes. Indeed, in that there is surely, a sign for you, if you have been believers.”

[3:50] “And confirming that which was before myself (Jesus) of the Torah and that I make lawful for you after that which has been forbidden upon you. And I have come to you with a sign from your Lord (wa-ji’tukum bi-aayatin min rabbikum). So,  you shall fear God and shall obey me.”

[3:61] Then whoever has argued with you (Muhammad) in it after what has come to you of the knowledge (min ba’di maa jaa-aka mina al-`il’mi), then say, “Come, we call our sons and your sons, and our women and your women, and ourselves and yourselves, then we pray to call God’s curse upon the liars.”

[3:81] And when God has taken a covenant of the prophets: “Surely, what I (God) have given you from scripture and wisdom, then there has come to you a messenger confirming that which is with yourselves (thumma jaa-akum rasuulun musaddiqun limaa ma`akum). You must believe in him and you must support him.” He said: “Have you affirmed and taken My covenant on that?” They said: “We have affirmed.” He said: “So, you shall bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses.”

[3:86] How would God guide a people who have disbelieved after their faith and have witnessed that the messenger (messenger of covenant) is truth and has come to them the clear proofs (anna al-rasuula haqqun wa-jaa-ahum al-bayyinaatu)? And God does not guide the people of the wrongdoers.

[3:105] And you do not be like those who have divided (them) and have differed after what has come to them the clear proofs (min ba’da jaa-ahum al-bayyinaatu). And those – for them there is a great punishment.

[3:183] Those who have said, “Indeed, God has promised to us that we should not believe to a messenger until he brings to us of a sacrifice consuming it the fire.” Say, “Certainly, there has come to you messengers before myself with the clear proofs (qad jaa-akum rusulun min qabli-i bil-bayyinaati) and with what you have mentioned. Then why have you killed them, if you have been truthful?”

[3:184] So if they have denied you, then certainly has been denied messengers before yourself had come with the clear signs, and the Psalms, and the enlightening scripture (fa-qad kudhiba rusulun min qablika jaa-uu bil-bayyinaati wal-zuburi wal-kitaabi muneeri).

[4:41] So how would it be when we have brought of a witness from every community (ji’naa min kulli ummatin bi-shaheedin), and we have brought of you a witness upon these people (wa-ji’naa bika `alaa haaulaai shaheedan)?

[4:43] O you who have believed, you do not go near the salat prayer, while you are in intoxication until you know what you are saying; nor impure except travelers on road until you take bath. And if you have been ill or on a journey, or one of you has come from the toilet (aw jaa-a ahadun minkum mina al-ghaaiti), or you have touched the women, then you do not find water, then you shall do dry ablution with clean soil, then you shall wipe of your faces and your hands. Indeed, God has been Pardoning, Forgiving.

[4:62] How will it be when a disaster befalls them for what has sent forth with their hands? Then they have come to you swearing by God (thumma jaauuka yah’lifuuna bi-allahi): “We have not intended except good and reconciliation.”

[4:64] And we have not sent any messenger except that he would be obeyed by God’s permission. And if that of them when they have wronged themselves, have come to you (Muhammad) (wa-lam annahum idh zalamuu anfusahum jaauuka), then they have asked forgiveness of God and the messenger has asked forgiveness for them; surely, they would have found God Redeemer, Merciful.

[4:83] And when there has come to them a matter of the security or the fear (wa-idhaa jaa-ahum am’run mina al-am’ni awi al-khaw’fi), they spread with it. And if they had referred it to the messenger and to possessors of the authority among them, surely, it would have known to those among them who can give correct interpretation of it. And if it were not God’s grace upon you and His mercy, surely, you would have followed the Satan, except a few.

[4:90] Except those who join to a people there is a treaty between yourselves and between themselves, or they have come to you has restrained their hearts that they will fight you (aw jaauukum hisirat suduuruhum an yuqaalituukum), or they will fight their people. And if God had willed, surely, He would have given them power over you, then surely, they would have fought you. So if they have withdrawn from you, then they do not fight you and have offered to you the peace, then God has made no way for you (to fight) against them.

[4:153] People of the scripture (Jews) ask you (Muhammad) to bring down to them a book from the sky, while certainly, they had asked Moses greater than that as they said, “Show us God in manifestation.” So, the lightning had struck them because of their wrongdoing. Then they had taken the calf after what had come to them as the clear proofs (thumma ittakhadhuu al-`ijla min ba’di jaa-at’humu al-bayyinaatu). Then we had pardoned about that. And we had given Moses a clear authority.

[4:170] O the people; certainly, there has come to you the messenger with the truth from your Lord (yaa-ay’yuhaa al-nnaasu qad jaa-akumu al-rasuulu bil-haqqi min rabbikum). So, you shall believe, is better for you. And if you disbelieve, then indeed, to God belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. And God has been Knower, Wise.

[4:174] O the people; certainly, there has come to you a proof from your Lord (yaa-ay’yuhaa al-nnaasu qad jaa-akumu bur’haanun min rabbikum), and we have sent down to you a clear light.

[5:6] O you who have believed, when you have intended for the salat prayer, then you shall wash your faces and your hands to the elbows, and shall wipe of your heads and your feet to the ankles. And if you have been impure (for sexual contact), then you shall purify. And if you have been ill, or on a journey, or one of you has come from the toilet (aw jaa-a ahadun minkum mina al-ghaaiti) or has contacted the women, then you do not find water, then you shall do dry ablution from clean soil that you shall wipe of your faces and your hands with it. God does not intend to make any difficulty upon you; but He intends to purify you and to complete His blessing upon you that you may appreciate.

[5:15] O people of the scripture (Torah and Injeel); certainly, there has come to you our messenger (yaa-ah’la al-kitaabi qad jaa-akum rasuulanaa) to make clear for you much of what you have done to conceal from the scripture and to overlook of many. Certainly, there has come to you from God a light and a clarifying scripture (qad jaa-akum mina allahi nuurun wa-kitaabun mubeenun).

[5:19] O people of the scripture; certainly, there has come to you our messenger to clarify for you (qad jaa-akum rasuulunaa yubayyinu lakum) upon an interval of the messengers lest you say, “There has not come to us a bearer of good news nor a warner (maa jaa-anaa min basheerin wa-laa-nadheerin) .” So, certainly, there has come to you a bearer of good news and a warner (fa-qad jaa-akum basheerun wa-nadheerun). And God has power over everything.

[5:32] From that time, we have decreed upon Children of Israel that whoever has killed a person not killing a person or spreading corruption in the earth, then like that as he has killed all the people, while whoever has saved it, then like that as he has saved all the people. And certainly, there has come to them our messengers with the clear proofs (wa-laqad jaa-at’hum rusulunaa bil-bayyinati), then indeed, most of them after that, are surely transgressors in the earth.

[5:42] Listeners to the falsehood are devourers of the forbidden. So if they have come to you (Muhammad), then you shall judge between themselves, or you shall turn away from them ((fa-in jaauuka fa-uh’kum baynahum aw a`rid `anhum). And if you turn away from them, then they cannot harm you in anything. And if you have judged, then you shall judge between themselves with the justice. Indeed, God loves the just ones.

[5:48] And we have sent down to you (Muhammad) the scripture (Quran) with the truth, confirming that which was before of it of the scripture, and consolidating of it. So you (Muhammad) shall judge between themselves with what God has sent down, and do not follow their wishes when there has come to you of the truth (wa-laa-ittabi` ah’waa-ahum `ammaa jaa-aka mina al-haqqi). For each we have made law and rite; and if God had willed, surely, He would have made you one community; but to test you in what He has given you. So you shall race for the good. To God is your return for all, then He will inform you of what you have done to differ.

[5:61] And when they (idol worshipers) had come to you (believers) (wa-idhaa jaa-akum), they said, “We have believed.” And certainly, they had entered with the disbelief, and certainly, they had left with it. And God is Knower of what they had done to hide.

[5:70] Certainly, we have taken a covenant of Children of Israel, and we have sent messengers to them. Every time there has come to them a messenger with what does not desire their egos (kullamaa jaa-ahum rasuulun bimaa laa-tah’waa anfusuhum); a group had denied and a group killed.

[5:84] And what is for us that we do not believe in God and what has come to us of the truth (wa-maa jaa-anaa mina al-haqqi), and we hope that our Lord will admit us with the righteous people?”

[5:110] When God said, “O Jesus, son of Mary, remember My blessing upon you and upon your mother, when I had supported you with the Holy Spirit to speak to the people in the crib and in maturity. When I had taught you the scripture and the wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you make from the clay like a shape of the bird by My permission, then you breathe into it, so it becomes a (live) bird by My permission, and you heal the blind and the leper by My permission. And when you bring forth the dead by My permission. And when I had restrained the Children of Israel from you when you had come to them with the clear proofs (wa-idh kafaf’tu banee is’raaila `anka idh ji’tahum bil-bayyinati), then those who had disbelieved from among them said, “This is not but a clear magic.”

[6:5] Then certainly, they have denied in the truth when it has come to them (kadhabuu bil-haqqi lammaa jaa-ahum), so, there will bring to them a news of what they have done with it to mock.

[6:25] And of them there is whoever listens to you (Muhammad), but we have placed veils on their hearts to prevent them from understanding it (Quran), and deafness in their ears; if they see every sign, they will not believe in it (sign), until when they have come to you to argue you (hattaa idhaa jaauuka yujaadiluunaka) say those who have disbelieved, “This is nothing but tales of the past.”

[6:31] Certainly, there has lost those who have denied in meeting of God, until when the Hour has come to them all of a sudden (hattaa idhaa jaa-at’humu al-saa`atu bagh’tatan), they said, “Oh! Our regret for what we have neglected in it (Hour).” And they will bear their burden on their backs; no doubt, it has been evil what they bear.

[6:34] And certainly, there has been denied messengers before yourself (Muhammad), while they (messengers) have been patient for what they have been denied, and they have been harmed until there had reached them our help. And there is no changer of God’s words; and certainly, there has come to you (Muhammad) a news of the sent ones (wa-laqad jaa-aka min naba-i al-mur’saleena).

[6:43] Then why not when there has come to them our punishment they have humbled (fa-lawlaa idh jaa-ahum basunaa tadarr`uu)? But there has become hardened their hearts, and the Satan has made fair-seeming to them for what they have done to accomplish.

[6:54] And when there has come to you (Muhammad) those who believe in our revelations (wa-idhaa jaa-aka alladheena yu’minuuna bi-aayaatinaa), then you shall say, “Peace upon you. Your Lord has decreed the mercy upon Himself that he whoever has done evil from you out of ignorance, then he has repented after of it and has reformed, then indeed, He is Forgiving, Merciful.”

[6:61] And He is the Supreme over His servants, and He sends guardians over you until when has come to one of you the death (wa-ur’silu `alaykum hafazatan hattaa idhaa jaa-a ahadakumu al-mawtu)  there has put him to death our messengers and they do not fail.

[6:91] They have not appraised God truth of His appraisal when they said, “God has not sent down anything to a human being.” Say, “Who has sent down the scripture which had come to Moses with it light and guidance for the people (man anzala al-kitaaba alladhee jaa-a bihi mosses nuuran wa-hudan lil’nnaasi)?” You make it parchments to proclaim it, and to conceal a lot. You have been taught what you did not know – you nor your forefathers. Say, “God.” Then leave them in their discourse to play.

[6:94]And certainly, you have come back to us as individual like that we have created you first time (wa-laqad ji’tumuunaa furaadaa kamaa khalaq’naakum awwala mirratin), and you have left behind your backs whatever we had bestowed on you. And we do not see with you your intercessors those whom you had claimed them partners in you. Indeed, there has severed between yourselves and has lost from you what you had done to claim.”

[6:104] Certainly, there has come to you enlightenments from your Lord (qad jaa-akum basaaira min rabbikum), so whoever has seen, then is for himself, and whoever has been blind, then is against himself, and I am not over you of a guardian.

[6:109] And they have sworn by God having stronger their oaths that if there had come to them a miracle, that they would surely believe in it (lain jaa-at’hum aayatun la’yu’minuunna bihaa). Say, “The miracles are only with God;” and what makes you know that if it had come, they would not believe (wa-maa yush’`irukum annahaa idhaa jaa-at laa-yu’minuuna).

[6:124] And when there has come to them a proof (wa-idhaa jaa-at’hum aayatun), they said, “We will not believe until we are given like what has been given to God’s messengers.” God is best Knower of where He should place His message. There will afflict those who have committed crimes – a humiliation from God and a severe punishment for what they have done to plot.

[6:157] Or you say: “If that the scripture had been sent down to us, surely, we would have been better in guidance than them.” So, certainly, there has come to you a clear proof from your Lord, and a guidance and  mercy (fa-qad jaa-akum bayyinatun min rabbikum wa-hudan wa-rahmatun). Then who is more wicked than whoever has denied in God’s revelations and has turned away from them? We will recompense those who turn away from our revelations an evil punishment for what they have done to turn away.

[6:160] Whoever has come with the good deed (man jaa-a bil-hasanati), then for him is like ten of it, and whoever has come with the evil deed (wa-man jaa-a bil-sayyiati), then he will not be recompensed except like of it, and they will not be wronged.
Peaceful Friday, salaam and God bless.
Tafazzal (11/03/2023).
