[2:260] And when Abraham said: “My Lord, show me how you give life to the dead.” He said: “Do you not believe?” He said: “Yes, I do, but it is so to reassure my heart.” He said: “Then have four birdsand mark them, then place pieces of them on each mountain, then call them to you; they will come to you in a hurry. And you should know that God is Almighty, Most Wise”.
Note: This is not only the event for the reassurance of Abraham but it was also a miracle given to him.
[7:74] “And recall that He made you successors after ‘Aad, and He settled you in the land so that you build palaces on its plains and carve out the mountains into homes. So recall God’s grace, and do not commit evil to corrupt the earth.”
Note: The destruction of the wicked people of Thamud while they disobeyed Saleh who was sent with she-camel as his support from God.
[7:143] When Moses came at our appointment, and his Lord spoke with him, he said, “My Lord, let me look upon You.” He said, “You cannot see Me. Look at the mountain; if it stays in its place, then you can see Me.” Then, his Lord manifested Himself to the mountain, and He made it to crumble. Moses fell unconscious. When he returned to normal, he said, “Glory be to You. I repent to You, and I am the first of those who believe.”
Note: This is in connection with the appointment of Moses with God at Mount Sinai, a great historical event when God spoke to Moses directly but behind a barrier.
[7:171] And as we raised the mountain above them as if it were a canopy, and they thought it would fall on them, “Take what we have given you with strength and remember what is in it so that you may be the righteous.”
Note: People should uphold what is given to them from their Lord and remember its content to be righteous.
[11:42] And it sailed with them in the waves like mountains, Noah called his son, while he was isolated: “O my son, embark with us; do not be with the disbelievers.”
[11:43] He said: “I will go to a mountain which will save me from the water.” He said: “There is no protector today from the commandment of God except on whom He has mercy.” And the wave came between them, so he was with the drowned.
Note: The consequence of Noah’s disbelieving son may be a lesson for the people of the subsequent generations.
[13:31] And if there were a Qur’an by which the mountains could be moved or by which the earth could be cloven asunder or by which the dead could be made to speak with. No, with God is their believing. Do then not know those who believe that if God had willed, He could have certainly guided all mankind? And those who disbelieve will not cease to strike them a disaster for what they did or it settles close to their homes until the promise of God comes to pass. Surely, God never breaks the promise.
Note: Whatever wondrous event with the Quran is shown to the disbelievers, they will not accept it.
[14:46] And they schemed their scheming, but their scheming was known to God, even if their scheming by which the mountains could be moved.
Note: It does not how strong may be the scheming of the disbelievers, it is known to God.
[15:82] And they used to carve in the mountains to have secure homes.
Note: This is in connection with the people of Thamud.
[16:68] And your Lord inspired to the bee: “You shall take homes of the mountains and of the trees, and there is what they build.”
[16:81] And God has made for you shade from what He created, and He made from the mountains shelters for you, and He made for you garments which protect you from the heat, and garments which protect you from your violence. It is such that He completes His blessing upon you, so that you may submit.
Note: Mountains are suitable places for the bee to build their homes, and people get many benefits from their hives.
[17:37] And you shall not walk in the land arrogantly, for you will not tear the earth asunder, nor will you reach the mountains in height.
Note: We should not be proud and arrogant as well as not to exceed the limit.
[18:47] And the Day we will move the mountains, and you see the earth is a leveled land, and we will gather them, and we will not leave anyone of them behind.
Note: When the earth comes to an end, the mountains will be removed and the earth will be a leveled land.
[19:90] Almost the heavens are to shatter from it, and the earth is to split asunder, and the mountains are to collapse in devastation.
Note: This is in connection with a blasphemy for the utterance that the Most Gracious has gotten a son!
[20:105] And they ask you about the mountains, say: “My Lord will explode them into particles.”
Note: On the day of Resurrection the mountains will be exploded to particles.
[21:79] So we gave understanding of it to Solomon, and to each we gave them wisdom and knowledge. And we committed the mountains and the birds to glorify our praises with David. This is what we did.
Note: The mountains and the birds were placed under disposal of Solomon and David.
[22:78] Do you not see that to God prostrate what is in the heavens and what is in the earth, and the sun and the moon and the stars and the mountains and the trees and the animals, and many of the people? And many who have deserved the retribution. And whoever God humiliates, then none can honor him. God does whatever He wills.
Note: Everything in the heavens and the earth including the sun and the moon and the stars and the mountains and the trees and the animals, and many of the people while many people deserve the retribution of God.
[24:43] Do you not see that God drives the clouds, then He gathers them together, then He piles them upon each other, then you see the rain coming out of them? And He sends down from the sky, the mountains of hail out of it to afflict whomever He wills, and He diverts it from whomever He wills. The flash of its lighting almost takes away the sight.
Note: The falling of large amount of hails may cause a disaster to a people of certain parts of the earth.
[26:149] And you carve out of the mountains to have houses with a great skill.
Note: This is in connection with the destruction of people of Thamud, who carved the mountain to secure their homes.
[27:88] When you look at the mountains, you think that they are standing still. But they are moving, like the clouds. Such is the creation of God, who has perfected everything. He is fully Cognizant of everything you do.
Note: The earth is not standing still but it moves faster around the sun as well as on its axis.
[33:72] We offered the Trust to the heavens and the earth, and the mountains, but they refused to bear it, and were afraid of it. But the human being accepted it; he was injudicious, ignorant.
Note: This verse is a hint of the offer of the Trust to all God’s creatures focusing on the behavior of the human being that he was not able to use his God-given wisdom in the offer.
[34:10] And certainly, we gave David blessings from us: “O mountains, glorify with him as well as the birds.” We softened the iron for him.

[38:18] We committed the mountains in his service to glorify with him at sunset and sunrise.
Note: The mountains were placed at the disposal of David for glorification of God with him day and night.
[52:10] And the mountains will be removed.
[56:5] And the mountains will be crumbled.
Note: When the earth comes to an end, the mountains will be removed and crumbled
[59:21] If we revealed this Quran to a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and crumbled out of reverence for God. And we cite these examples to the people, so that they may reflect.
Note: Here is the example citing with the mountains so that people may reflect to the Quran given as their guidance and the reminder.
[69:14] And the earth and the mountains will be carried off and crushed; utterly crushed.
[70:9] And the mountains will be like wool.
[73:14] The Day the earth and the mountains will quake, and the mountains will become a heap of crumbling sand.
[77:10] And when the mountains are blown away.
[78:7] And the mountains as stabilizers.
[78:20] And the mountains are moved as if they were a mirage.
[79:32] And the mountains, He made them firm.
[81:3] And when the mountains are moved away.
[88:19] And towards the mountains how they are firmed.
[101:5] And the mountains will be like fluffy wool.
Note: The mountains are stabilizers and firmed to the earth but when the earth comes to an end, there will be no existence of the mountains while they will be as if they were a mirage in the earth.
Mathematical confirmation
There is also a mathematical confirmation that mountain is a significant sign of God’s creation to reflect on Him. Out of 39 instances of “Jabal” 36 instances found in 36 verses of 32 suras participate in the mathematical confirmation excluding duplication. If the digits of the relevant sura and verse # are added, the sum is a multiple of 19 => 3268 = 19x172 (see the table below for details):
Note: The instance in the verse 78:20 has not participated in the mathematical calculation as the mountains referring in the verse have no existence except a mirage after removing the mountains followed by the destruction of the world.
Conclusion
There are 39 instances of “Jabal” meaning mountain in 37 verses across 32 suras in the Quran while 36 verses of 32 suras have participated in the mathematical confirmation. However, the major events that the Quran deals under these instances include: (1) a miracle given to Abraham dealing with four birds, (2) the destruction of the wicked people of Thamud who carved mountains to secure their homes, while they disobeyed Saleh who was sent with she-camel as his support from God,(3) the appointment of Moses with God at Mount Sinai, a great historical event when God spoke to Moses directly, (4) people should uphold what is given to them from their Lord and remember its content to be righteous, (5) the consequence of Noah’s disbelieving son to be a lesson for the people of the subsequent generations, (6) the association of the wondrous events with the Quran could not make the disbelievers to be the believers of it, (7) it does not matter how strong may be the scheming of the disbelievers,is not unknown to God, (8) mountains are suitable places for the bee to build their homes, and people get many benefits from their hives, (9) we should not be proud and arrogant as well as not to exceed the limit, (10) details of what will happen to the mountains that are stabilizers and firmed to the earth when the earth comes to an end, (11) a blasphemy for the utterance that the Most Gracious has gotten a son!, (12) the mountains and the birds were placed under the disposal of Solomon and David for glorification of God with them day and night, (13) everything in the heavens and the earth including the sun, the moon and the stars, the mountains, the trees and the animals, and many of the people while many people deserve the retribution of God, (14) the falling of large amount of hails may cause a disaster to a people of certain parts of the earth, (15) the faster movement of earth around the sun as well as on its axis, (16) the offer of the Trust to all God’s creaturesto expose their view about their Lord, and (17) the example citing with the mountains so that people may reflect to the Quran given as their guidance and the reminder.
The mountains are stabilizers and firmed to the earth but they will be like fluffy wool when the world comes to an end. They will be removed and crumbled. The earth and the mountains will quake, and the mountains will be a heap of crumbling sand. There will be no existence of the mountains, and the earth will be a leveled plain land. They will be as if they were a mirage in the earth that we are already aware of from the event of Mount Sinai.
The above review indicates that there are many events in the Quran centering the mountains to reflect; even we have a mathematical confirmation to strengthen our hearts to make appropriate attention to be wondrous creation of God. However, if we can concentrate to a great historical event that God spoke to Moses directly when God manifested Himself to the mountain, the wondrous events associated with the Quran referring to the mountains, a blasphemy for the utterance that the Most Gracious has gotten a son!, upholding what is given from our Lord and remembering its content to be righteous, and there will be no existence of the mountains when the world comes to an end while they will be as if they were a mirage, would be a great help for us to lead a righteous life.
Peaceful Friday, salaam and God bless.
