Instances of Ummah
Out of 64 instances of Ummah meaning nation/community in the noun form in the Quran, 25 instances found in 24 verses have already been reviewed, and 39 instances found in 33 verses are reviewed below:
[11:8] And that if we had delayed the punishment from them for a specified period (wa-la-in akharnaa `anhumu al-`adhaaba ilaa ummatin ma`duudatin), that they would say, “What does it detain?” No doubt, a day it comes to them has not been a averted from them, and has surrounded with them what they had done to mock with it.
[11:48] It has been said: “O Noah, descend with peace from us and blessings upon you, and upon communities from whoever with yourself (wa-`alaa umamin mimmaa ma`aka). And communities we will grant them enjoyment (wa-umamin sa-numatti`uhum yamassuhum minnaa `adhaabun aleemun), then a painful punishment will touch them from us.”
[11:118] If your Lord had willed, that He would have made the people one community (la’ja`ala al-naasa ummatan waahidatan), they would not cease to differ.
[12:45] And said the one who had saved of the two, and had remembered after a period (wa-qaala alladhee najaa min’humaa wa-iddakara ba`da ummatin), “I can inform you (king) of its interpretation, so send me.”
[13:30] Thus that we have sent you (prophet) to a community (kadhaalika arsalnaaka fee ummatin). Certainly, there has passed communities from before of it (qad khalat min qablihaa umamun) that you recite to them what we have inspired to you, while they may disbelieve in the Gracious. Say, “He is my Lord, there is no god except He. Upon Him I have put trust and to Him is my return.”
[15:5] Not a community can advance its term (maa tas’biqu min ummatin ajalahaa) , nor can it delay.
[16:36] And that certainly, we have raised messenger in every community (wa-laqad ba`athnaa fee kulli ummatin) that you shall worship God and shall avoid the false deities.” That of them there is whomever God has guided, and of them there is whoever has justified the straying upon him. So, you shall travel in the earth, then you shall see how there has been an end of the deniers.
[16:63] By God that certainly, we had sent to communities from before of you (Muhammad) (ta’allahi laqad arsalnaa ilaa umamin min qablika), that the Satan had made fair-seeming their deeds to them. So, he is their protector today, and for them there is a painful punishment.
[16:84] And a day we will raise from every community a witness (wa-yawma nab’`athu min kulli ummatin shaheedan), then there will not be permitted for those who had disbelieved (to speak), nor will they be asked to amend.
[16:89] And a day we will raise a witness in every community over them from themselves (wa-yawma nab’`athu fee kulli ummatin shaheedan `alayhim min anfusihim), and we will have brought of you (Muhammad) aa a witness over these people; and we have sent down to you (Muhammad) the scripture is a clarification of everything, and a guidance and a mercy and a good news for the Submitters.
[16:92] And you do not be like her whoever has untwisted her spun yarn after strength into untwisted strands. You take your oaths as deception between of you that a community would be (tattakhiduuna aymaanakum dakhalan baynakum an takuuna ummatun) – it has increased number more than another community (hiya arbaa min ummatin). God only tests you with it. And that He will make clear for you on a day of the Resurrection what you have done to differ in it.
[16:93] And if God had willed, that He could have made you one community (wa-law shaa-a allahu la-ja`alakum ummatan waahidatan), but He lets go astray whomever He wills, and He guides whomever He wills. And that you will surely be asked about what you have done to accomplish.
[16:120] Indeed, Abraham had been a community of Monotheism being obedient to God (inna ib’raaheema kaana ummatan qaanitan haneefan), and he was not with the idol-worshipers.
[21:92] Indeed, this is a community of you (people), one community (inna haadhihi ummatukum ummatan waahidatan), and I am your Lord that you shall worship Me.
[22:34] And for each community we have made a rite (wa-likulli ummatin ja`alnaa mansakan) that they may remember God’s name upon what He has provided them from the four-footed livestock. And that your god is One god that to Him you shall submit and shall give good news to the humble ones.
[22:67] For every community we have made a rite, they are observant of it (likulli ummatin ja`alnaa mansakan hum naasikuuhu). That they do not dispute with you (prophet) in the matter, and you shall invite to your Lord. Indeed, you are surely on a straight guidance.
[23:43] No community can precede its term, nor can they delay (maa tas’biqu min ummatin ajalahaa wa-maa yastakhiruuna).
[23:44] Then we have sent our messengers in succession. Every time there had come to a community its messenger (kulla maa jaa-a ummatan rasuuluhaa), they have denied him. That we have made follow of them to other, and we have made them precedents that away are a people who do not believe.
[23:52] And indeed, this is a community of you (people), one community (wa-inna haadhihi ummatukum ummatan waahidatan), and I am your Lord that you shall fear Me.
[27:83] And a day we will gather from every community (wa-yawma nahshuru min kulli ummatin), a group of whoever denies in our revelations that they will be set in a row.
[28:23] And when he (Moses) had reached a water of Madyan, he found on it a group of the people were watering (wajada `alayhi ummatan min al-naasi yasquuna) and found two women were waiting keeping back besides them. He said, “What is a matter with you?” They said, “We cannot water until the shepherds pull back, and our father is a very old man.”
[28:75] And we will raise a witness from every community (wa-naza`naa min kulli ummatin shaheedan), then we will say, “Bring your proof.” Then they will know that the truth belongs to God, and there has gone away what they had done to invent.
[29:18] And if you denied, that certainly, there had denied the communities from before of you (people) (fa-qad kadhaba umamun min qablikum), while it is not upon the messenger except the conveyance of the clarified message.
[35:24] Indeed, we have sent you (prophet) with the truth, a bearer of good news and a warner, and not a community had passed but a warner in it (wa-in min ummatin illaa khalaa feehaa nadheerun).
[35:42] And they had sworn by God saying a solemn of their oaths that if there had come to them a warner, that they would surely be better guided than any of the communities (la’yakuununna ah’daa min ih’daa al-umami). Then when there had come to them a warner, they had not increased them except in aversion.
[40:5] There had denied before of them a people of Noah and the parties after of them, and there has plotted every community against their messenger to seize him (wa-hammat kullu ummatin bi-rasuulihim li’yakhudhuuhu) and has disputed with the falsehood to refute the truth with it. So, I had seized them; then how had been My punishment?
[41:25] And we have assigned for them companions that there has made fair seeming for them what was before of them and what was behind of them, and has justified the word (punishment) against them in the nations certainly has passed away of the jinn and the human from before of them (fee umamin qad khalat min qablihim mina al-jini wa-al-insi). Indeed, they had been losers.
[42:8] And if God had willed, that He could have made them one community (la’ja`alahum ummatan waahidatan), but He admits whomever He wills into His mercy, while the wrongdoers have neither a protector for them nor a helper.
[43:22] Nay, they said, “Indeed, we have found our forefathers upon a community (innaa wajadnaa abaa-anaa `alaa ummatan), and indeed, we are guided on their footsteps.”
[43:23] And thus that we have not sent any warner in a town from before of you (prophet) except its leaders had said, “Indeed, we have found our forefathers on a community (innaa wajadnaa abaa-anaa `alaa ummatan), and indeed, we are followers on their footsteps.”
[43:33] And if not that mankind would be one community (wa-law-laa an yakuuna al-naasu waahidatan), that we would have made for whoever disbelieves in the Gracious for their houses of roofs with silver and stairs upon which they could mount.
[45:28] And you will see every community is kneeling (wa-taraa kulla ummatin jaathiyatan). Every community will be called to its record (kullu ummatin tud’`a-aa ilaa kitaabihaa), “Today, you will be compensated for what you have done to accomplish.
[46:18] Those are the ones who have justified the punishment against them in communities certainly passed away from before of them from the Jinns and the humans (fee umamin qad khalat min qablihim mina al-jini wa-al-insi). Indeed, they had been losers.
Instance of aammeen
There is an instance of aammeen in the active participle form meaning coming found in one verse of one surah in the Quran is detailed below:
[5:2] O you who have believed, you do not violate God’s rites, nor the Sacred Month, nor the animal to sacrifice, nor the garlanded ones, nor coming to the Sacred House seeking bounty from their Lord and pleasure (wa-laa-aammeena al-bayta al-haraama yab’taghuuna fadlan min rabbihim wa-rid’waanan). And when it has been lawful for you, then you may hunt. And let not incite you the hatred of a people as they have prevented you from the Sacred Masjid that you may transgress. You shall help one another in the uprightness and the righteousness; you do not help one another in the sin and the transgression. And you shall fear God; indeed, God is severe in the retribution.
Reviewed 39 instances of ummah in 33 verses of 18 surahs and 1 instance of aammeen in 1 verse of 1 surah in the Quran. Messages from Instances of ummah confirm the punishment as specified is not delayed, while no community can advance its term nor can it delay, if God wills, He could make the people one community, while He has raised messenger from every community to recite His revelations and has made a rite to be observant of it, He has sent His messengers in succession to every community, while they have denied him, He will raise a witness from every community when they know the truth from God that they had gone astray for what they had invented, while there is no community had passed except a warner in it with the truth as a bearer of good news and warners, there are communities who had sworn by God that if He had sent messenger, they would be better guided but when had a messenger they denied him, He has assigned companions that have made fair seeming for them what was before of them and what was behind of them to justify the punishment in the communities from the humans and the jinns, He has mentioned an example of a people of Noah and parties after of them that every community has plotted against their messengers to seize them and has disputed with the falsehood to refute the truth with it had been punished, and from instance of aammeen is to help each other in uprightness and righteousness but not in sin and transgression.
