Review instances of Hadeeth and Sunnah in the Quran

Introduction

The misinterpretation of two Arabic words, hadeeth and sunnah has made a big mess in the Islamic world. As a consequence the Muslim community has divided into many secs but what is most worse is they become idol worshipers corrupting their faiths and practices being completely oblivious to what they are doing as the Satan has made fair-seeming their works to them to make them losers in the Hereafter. It is unfortunate to mention that even when they are warned about the consequences with good logic and clear proofs, they feel discomfort considering them against their faiths and practices passed down to them, or argue with something that does not make sense, or disregard them paying no attention to them behaving like deaf, dumb and blind or deny them being arrogant.

However, here are the details of these two instances as found in the Quran to understand their true meanings in different contexts that may help to have explicit clarification to get out of this mess knowing the truth from the word of God to Whom is our return:

Instances of Hadeeth

There are 28 instances of hadeeth (حَدِيث) in the noun form in the Quran literally mean “statement” while we know that an Arabic word may have a range of meanings depending on the contexts, which is a key concept to interpret the message coded in the Arabic text of the Quran. However, 28 instances of hadeeth found in 28 verses across 22 surahs in the Quran are detailed below to better understand its meaning in different contexts:

[4:42] That day, will wish those who have disbelieved and have disobeyed the messenger if the earth were leveled with them, while they cannot hide any statement (hadeethan) from God.

[4:78] Wherever you might be, the death will overtake you, even if you have been in a high raised towers. And if any good befalls them, they say, “This is from God,” and if any bad befalls them, they say, “This is for yourself”. Say, “All is from God.” So, what is wrong with these people that they seem not to understand any statement (hadeethan)?

[4:87] God: there is no god except He; surely, He will gather you on a Day of the Resurrection: there is no doubt about it. And who has truth than God in a statement (hadeethan)?

[4:140] And certainly, He has sent down to you in the scripture that when you have heard God’s revelations to disbelieve in them and are ridiculed with them, then do not sit with them until they engage in a discussion (hadeethin) other than of it. Indeed, you then be like of them. Indeed, God will gather the hypocrites and the disbelievers all together in Hell

[6:68] And when you (prophet) have seen those who engage in (mocking) our revelations, then you shall turn away from them until they engage in a discussion (hadeethin) other than of it. And if the Satan causes you to forget, then you do not sit with the people of the wrongdoers after being the reminder.

[7:185] Do they not look at a dominion of the heavens and the earth, and what of a thing God has created and that it may have been that there has certainly come near their term? So, in which Hadith (hadeethin) after of it do they believe?

[12:6] And thus that your Lord chooses you (Yusuf) and teaches you of an interpretation of the statements (al-ahaadeethi) and completes His favor upon you and upon a family of Jacob as what He had completed it upon your two forefathers from before – Abraham and Isaac. Indeed, your Lord is Knower, Wise.”

[12:21] And said to his wife who had bought him from Egypt, “Make comfortable his stay. It may have been that he will benefit us or we will take him as a son.” And thus that we had established Yusuf in the earth, and that we teach him of an interpretation of the statements (al-ahaadeethi). And God is Dominant over His affair, but most of the people do not know.

[12:101] “My Lord, You have given me (Yusuf) of the kingship and have taught me of an interpretation of the statements (al-ahaadeethi). As Creator of the heavens and the earth You are my Protector in the world and the Hereafter; You cause me to die as a Muslim and join me with the righteous.”

[12:111] Certainly, there has been a lesson in their stories for possessors of the understanding. It has not been a Hadith (hadeethan) (Quran) is invented but a confirmation of that which was before of it, and a detailed explanation of all things, and a guidance, and mercy for a people to believe.

[18:6] So that you (prophet) may be the one killing yourself in grief over their footsteps that they do not believe in this statement (bi-haadhaa al-hadeethi).

Note: This statement comes in connection with those who said that God has taken a son.

[20:9] And has there come to you a story (hadeethu) of Moses?

[23:44] Then we have sent our messengers in succession. Every time there had come to a nation its messenger, they have denied him. So, we have made follow of them to other, and we have made them precedents (ahaadeetha) that away are a people who do not believe.

[31:6] And among the people whoever accepts the baseless Hadith (lahwa al-hadeethi) to mislead from a path of God without having knowledge and takes it as mockery; those – for them there is a humiliating punishment.

Note: Those who accept and follow baseless Hadiths disregarding God’s revelations, is a mockery to God/the Quran, for them there is a painful punishment in the Hereafter.

[33:53] O you who have believed, you do not enter the prophet’s homes except that permission is given to you for a meal without awaiting its preparation. But when you have been invited, then you shall enter; then when you have eaten, then you shall leave, and not staying for a conversation (li’hadeethin). Indeed, that have been to hurt the prophet, and he shies from you, while God does not shy for the truth. And when you have asked them (prophet’s wives) something, then you shall ask them from behind a screen. That are purer for your hearts and their (prophet’s wives) hearts. And it has not been for you that you hurt a messenger of God. And it is not that you should marry his wives after him ever. Indeed, that have been a gross offense at God.

[34:19] Then they said: “Our Lord, lengthen between our journeys.” And they had wronged their souls. So, we had made them precedents (ahaadeetha) and had dispersed them being a total dispersed. Indeed, in that surely, there are signs for every grateful patient.

[39:23] God has sent down a scripture of the best Hadith (ah’sana al-hadeethi) being consistent to each other. The skins of those who fear their Lord shiver from it (Quran), then their skins and their hearts soften up to God’s message. That is God’s guidance; He guides with it (Quran) whomever He wills, and whomever God lets go astray, then there is no guide for him.

Note: God has confirmed that the Quran is the best Hadith, which is a guidance from Him. Those who uphold it are the guided ones and those who do not uphold it are the misguided ones.

[45:6] That is of God’s signs we recite them to you (prophet) with the truth. Then in which Hadith (hadeethin) after God and His revelations do they believe?

Note: God has revealed certain verses indicating signs from His creations are truth leave no room to disbelieve in His revelations. Thus, when His revelations are recited, then those who insist on becoming arrogant as if they do not hear them will have a painful punishment.

[51:24] Has there come to you (prophet) a story (hadeethu) of the honored guests of Abraham?

[52:34] Then let them bring of a Hadith (bi-hadeethin) like of it (Quran), if they have been truthful.

Note: God has directed His prophet to share with his contemporary disbelieving people to produce a Hadith like it referring to the Quran what is being revealed to him.

[53:59] Then of this statement (haadhaa al-hadeethi) do you wonder?

[56:81] Then is in this statement (haadhaa al-hadeethi) that you are indifferent?

[66:3] The prophet had confided a statement (hadeethan) to one of his wives, then when she has informed of it, and God has made it known to him, he has made known a part of it and has avoided a part from (it). Then when he has informed her of it, she said, “Who informed you of this?” He said, “Has informed me the Knower, the Cognizant.”

[68:44] So leave Me and whoever denies in this – the Hadith (bi-haadha al-hadeethi) (Quran); we will lead them from where they would not know.

Note: Here is a commandment that God has given the Quran as a guidance for mankind from which people should learn how to reach towards a day of the Resurrection but the deniers will not be able to do that.

[77:50] So, in which Hadith (hadeethin) after of it (Quran) do they believe?

Note: It is a warning for the deniers of the deniers who will be asked on a day of the Judgment which Hadith they had upheld other than the Quran.

[79:15] Has there come to you a story (hadeethu) of Moses?

[85:17] Has there come to you a story (hadeethu) of the troops (of Pharaoh)?

[88:1] Has there come to you a news (hadeethu) of the Overwhelming?

Instances of Sunnah

There are 16 instances of sunnah (سُنَّة) in the Quran in the noun form literally mean “system” while we know that an Arabic word may have a range of meanings depending on the contexts, which is a key concept to interpret the message coded in the Arabic text of the Quran. However, 16 instances of sunnah found in 11 verses across 11 surahs in the Quran are detailed below to better understand its meaning in different contexts:

[3:137] Certainly, there has passed precedents (sunanun) from before of you; so you shall travel in the earth, then you shall see how had been an end of the deniers.

[4:26] God wishes to make clear for you and to guide you ways (sunana) of those from before of you and to accept repentance from you. And God is Knower, Wise.

[8:38] Say to those who have disbelieved, if they refrain, will be forgiven for them what certainly has past; but if they return, then certainly has preceded a consequence (sunnatu) of the earlier people.                                         `

[15:13] They (criminals) do not believe in him (any messenger came to them before), and certainly, there has passed a system (sunnatu) of the former people.

Note: The disbelieving people make it a system not to believe in the messengers from the past.

[17:77] It has been (God’s) system (sunnata) for whomever certainly, we had sent before of you (prophet) of our messengers, and you will not find any change in our systemli’sunnatinaa).

Note: It has been God’s system that if the disbelievers had driven drive away any messenger, then they would not stay except for a little while, which was also applicable for Muhammad as well.

[18:55] What has prevented the people that they do not believe when there has come to them the guidance, nor ask forgiveness of their Lord, except that there brings to them a system (sunnatu) of the earlier people, or there brings to them the punishment before.

Note: The disbelieving people make it a system neither to believe in the guidance, nor to ask forgiveness of their Lord from the past.

[33:38] It has been no discomfort upon the prophet in what God has decreed for him. It has been God’s system (sunnata allahi) with those who had passed away from before. It has been God’s command being a destined decree.

Note: It is God’s system to obey His order and there was no exception for His prophet.

[33:62] It has been God’s system (sunnata allahi) with those who had passed away from before, and you will not find any change in God’s system (li’sunnati allahi).

Note: God has cursed the criminals and has ensured their punishment in the earth by the hands of the believers and It has been God’s system from the past and there is no change in it.

[35:43] There had been arrogance in the earth and the evil plotting, but the evil plotting does not encompass except around its people. Then do they wait except a way (sunnata) of the former? But you will not find any change in God’s system (li’sunnati allahi) or will you find any alteration in God’s system (li’sunnati allahi).

Note: What God had done with the people of the former generations has done the same for the people of later generations giving them respite until an appointed term as there is no change or alteration in the God’s system otherwise He would not leave any creature on its back.

[40:85] Then their faith did not benefit them when they have seen our punishment. It has been God’s system (sunnata allahi) which has certainly preceded with His servants, and has lost there the disbelievers.

Note: It is God’s system that believing in Him alone will not benefit the disbelievers when they see His punishment, while they have mocked the messengers when they had come to them with the clear proofs.

[48:23] It has been God’s system (sunnata allahi) which certainly, has passed away from before, and you will not find any change in God’s system (li’sunnati allahi).

Note: The victory comes to the believers over the disbelievers. It has been God’s system from the past, and there is no change in it.

Conclusion

Review of instances of hadeeth indicates that there are meanings other than “statement” in different contexts for appropriate interpretation of the message having consistency among them. What is noteworthy that there is mention of God’s Hadith referring to the Quran several times but we do not see even a single time to have any reference of hadeeth mentioning Muhammad or the prophet. On the other hand, review of instances of sunnah indicates that there are meanings other than “system” in different contexts for appropriate interpretation of the message having consistency among them. Then it is also noteworthy that there is mention of God’s system referring to the Quran several times but we do not see even a single time to have any reference of sunnah mentioning Muhammad or the prophet, while there is mention of sunnah referring to the disbelieving people who make it a system not believing in the messengers from the past. In fact, when there is a reference of Hadith among the people, it is God’s Hadith, which is the Quran and also when there is a reference of sunnah among the people, it is God’s Sunnah, which is the Quran, and when there is a reference of Hadith and Sunnah among the people, it means the Quran. Thus, God has made the truth prevail among the people as awareness not to fall in idol worship upholding man-made hadiths and sunnahs being advocated by the Satan and his allies if they study and follow the Quran making it their means to do the righteous deeds being Muslims.

God has not only made the truth prevail among the people that the Quran is His Hadith and Sunnah, but He has also warned the people in the Quran about this big mess being invented more than 80 thousand man-made hadiths and sunnahs falsely assigning to Muhammad, the prophet who had never recited anything other than the Quran, nor had he done anything what God has not ordered him to do:

[6:112] And thus that we have made an enemy for every prophet, the devils from the human and the jinn to inspire of them to other the fancy word in deception. And if your Lord had willed, they would not have done it. So you shall disregard them and what they fabricate.

[6:113] And thus that there inclines to it hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter, and that they please with it, and that they commit what they are committing.

Now the Muslim community should think how they get to such big mess accepting and following a huge number of invented hadiths and sunnah. If they can see the truth in the word of God and realize that their believing and practicing even they may have been pleased will not work for them with God not being something except show off and mockery for failing to meet what He has prescribed for the Muslims in the Quran – a clear guidance, and a statute book, and mercy, and healing for mankind, they may take initiatives to know what would be the right thing for themselves to do to get back to God’s religion for their successful return to Him.

Peaceful Friday, salaam and God bless.
