Surah al-Rahmaan (Surah 55: Revelation Order 97)

God is a Teacher of the Quran

  • The Gracious (55:1). He has taught the Quran (55:2). He has created the human (55:3). He has taught him the wisdom (55:4).
Note: God is not only author of the Quran but also is a teacher of it while He has created human and has given him wisdom as well as has taught him the Quran to distinguish between right and wrong.

To establish the weight with the justice

  • The sun and the moon with calculation (55:5). The star and the tree both prostrate (55:6). The heaven He has raised it and has set up the balance (law) (55:7). That you would not transgress the law (55:8). You shall establish the weight with the justice, and do not make deficient the balance (55:9).
Note: God has created the sun and the moon for a specific term while the star the tree are humble to Him, and raised the heaven and has set up the balance to establish the weight with the justice.

The earth has been created for all creatures

  • The earth He has made it for all creatures (55:10). In it there is fruit, and date palm having the sheaths (55:11), and the grain having the husk, and the spicy plant (55:12). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:13).
Note: God has made the earth for all creatures and has provided for all including human and jinn.

God is Creator of both human and jinn

  • He has created the human from clay like the pottery (55:14). And He has created the jinn from a flame of fire (55:15). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:16). Lord of the two easts and the two wests (55:17). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny?” (55:18).
Note: God has created human from clay, and jinn from a flame of fire while He is Lord for the two easts and two wests, and the earth orbits around the sun from east to west and measuring various distances on the earth, we have two easts – the nearest east and the farthest east – and two wests – the nearest west and the farthest west. This is a hint of scientific fact in the Quran.

There is a barrier between the two seas where they meet

  • He has let flow the two seas that they meet (55:19). There is a barrier between both of them that they do not cross (55:20). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:21). There comes the pearl and the coral from both of them (55:22). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:23). And for Him are the ships elevated like mountains in the sea (55:24). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:25).
Note: It has been discovered that in the places where two different seas meet, there is a barrier between them, which divides the two seas that each sea has its own temperature, salinity and density, but both of them provide pearl and coral, while mountains like ships plough in both of them by God permission. This is also a hint of scientific fact in the Quran to strengthen our hearts.

Existence of God is eternal

  • Everyone whoever is on it to be perished (55:26). And will remain presence of your Lord, Possessor of Majesty and Honor (55:27). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:28). Asks Him whoever is in the heavens and the earth. Every day He is in a matter (55:29). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:30).
Note: Everything to be perished but existence of perpetual, and every day He is busy for taking care of His dominion.

Both human and jinn cannot pass the outer boundaries

  • We will call for you O you two groups (55:31). So in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:32). O community of the jinn and the human, if you have been able that you will pass boundaries of the heavens and the earth, then you shall pass. You cannot pass except having authority (55:33). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:34). There will be sent against both of you a flame of fire and smoke, so you cannot defend (55:35). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:36).
Note: God has warned two communities, human and jinn that they cannot pass the outer boundaries of the heavens and the earth and even if they try to pass will be protected with a flame of fire and smoke.

Neither human or jinn will be asked about their sin on a day of the Judgment

  • Then when the heaven has split that it has turned rose colored like murky oil (55:37). So in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:38). So, that day, neither human, nor jinn will be asked about his sin (55:39). So, in which of your Lord’s marvels will you deny? (55:40).
Note: On a day of the Judgment both human and jinn will not be asked about their sin but will be compensated for what they have done.

The guilty will be punished in Hell

  • The guilty will be recognized by their marks; then will be seized by the forelocks and the feet (55:41). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:42). This is Hell which denies in it the guilty (55:43). They will go around in it and in a heated scalding water (55:44). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:45).
Note: On a day of the Judgment the guilty from both human and jinn will be admitted to enter to Hell for what they had denied before and will be identified from their marks, while description of Hell is allegorical that we should not have any confusion about it.

Allegorical description of the two Higher Heavens for the righteous

  • And for whoever has feared standing before their Lord, are two gardens (55:46). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:47). Having various kinds (55:48). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:49). In them there are two springs to flow (55:50). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:51). In them from every fruit is two kinds (55:52). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:53). Reclining on couches of their linings are of brocade and fruit of the gardens is near (55:54). In which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:55). In them there are companions of modest gaze – never touch them any human nor any jinn (55:56). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:57). Like that they are gem and coral (55:58). In which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:59). Is there any reward of the good except the good? (55:60). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:61).
Note: There are two Higher Gardens – one for human and one for jinn for the righteous who have developed their souls to be qualified for it and the righteous will be identified from their marks for radiating light ahead of them, while the description of Higher Heaven along with happiness in it is allegorical that we should not have any confusion about it nor should have any argument about it.

Allegorical description of the two Lower Heavens for the righteous

  • Besides the two (gardens mentioned above), there are (other) two gardens (55:62). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:63). (They) are dark green (55:64). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:65). In them, are two springs gushing forth (55:66). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:67). In them are fruit, and date palm, and pomegranate (55:68). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:69). In them are good of beautiful mates (55:70). So, in which of Lord’s your favors will you deny? (55:71). Nice looking ones are in the tents (55:72). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:73). Never touch them any human, nor any jinn (55:74). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:75). Reclining on green cushions and beautiful carpets (55:76). So, in which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? (55:77).
Note: There are two Lower Gardens – one for human and one for jinn for the righteous who have developed their souls to be qualified for it and the righteous will be identified with their marks for radiating light on their right, while the description of Lower Heaven along with happiness in it is also allegorical that we should not any confusion about it nor should have any argument about it.

All praise and glory to God being Possessor of Majesty and Honor

  • Blessed is name of your Lord, Possessor of the Majesty and the Honor (55:78).
Note: All praise and glory to God being Possessor of Majesty and Honor who has blessed us with His grace and protection.

Surah al-rahmaan (Surah 55: The Gracious) can  be reviewed reflecting God being a teacher of the Quran and what He has taught us repeatedly mentioning His favors upon us: (1) He has blessed both human and jinn from His bounties to appreciate Him, (2) to establish the weight with justice, (3) He has created the earth for all creatures, (4) He is Creator of both human and jinn, (5) existence of God is eternal, (6) both human and jinn cannot pass the outer boundaries, (7)  neither human nor jinn will be asked about their sin on a day of the Judgment, (8) the guilty will be punished in Hell, (9) allegorical description of Higher Heaven for the righteous, (10) allegorical description of Lower Heaven for the righteous, and (11) all praise and glory to God being Possessor of Majesty and Honor.

In conclusion, God being the Gracious has blessed both human and jinn from His bounties to be grateful to Him and has taken responsibility to teach us the Quran giving intelligence to make distinction between right and wrong, and none should think of to be a teacher of the Quran to associate him with Him.
Peaceful Friday, salaam and God bless.
