- 7. Jacob has been mentioned 16 times by name in the Quran found in 16 verses across 10 surahs. He had let his children know that God has chosen the religion and advised them not to die without being a Muslim, and when he was on the death bed he had an assurance from his children that they would worship One god, god of their forefathers, Abraham, Ismail and Isaac. He had been a possessor of the firmness like Abraham and Isaac:
[2:132] And Abraham had enjoined his children with it, and Jacob: “O my children, indeed, God has chosen the religion for you; so you do not die except, while you are submitters.”
[2:133] Or had you been witnesses when the death had come to Jacob; when he said to his children, “What will you worship after of me?” They said, “We will worship your god; god of your forefathers: Abraham, and Ismail, and Isaac – One god. And to Him we are submitters.”
[2:136] Say, “We have believed in God, and what has been sent down to us, and what has been sent down to Abraham and Ismail and Isaac and Jacob and the Patriarchs; and what has been given to Moses and Jesus, and what has been given to the prophets from their Lord. We do not make distinction between anyone of them. And we are Submitters to Him.”
[2:140] Or do you say that Abraham, and Ismail, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs had been Jews or Christians? Say, “Are you better knower or God?” And who is more unjust than whoever has concealed a testimony with him from God? And God is not unaware of what you do.”
[3:84] Say, “We have believed in God, and what has been sent down to us, and what has been sent down to Abraham, and Ismail, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and what has been given to Moses, and Jesus, and the prophets from their Lord. We do not make distinction between anyone of them, and we are submitters to Him.”
[4:163] Indeed, we have inspired to you (Muhammad) like that we had inspired to Noah, and the prophets after of him. And we had inspired to Abraham, and Ismail, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and Jesus, and Job, and Jonah, and Aaron, and Solomon. And we had given David Psalms.
[6:84] And we had granted to him (Abraham) Isaac and Jacob – each we had guided. And Noah we had guided before of (them), and of his descendants: David, and Solomon, and Job, and Joseph, and Moses, and Aaron. And thus that we reward the gooddoers.
[11:71] His (Abraham) wife was standing, so she laughed while we had given her a good news of Isaac, and Jacob after Isaac.
[12:6] And thus that your Lord chooses you and teaches you of interpreting the statements and completes His favor upon you and upon a family of Jacob as what He had completed it upon your two forefathers before – Abraham and Isaac. Indeed, your Lord is Knower, Wise.”
[12:38] And I (Joseph) have followed a religion of my forefathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It has not been for us that we associate anything with God. That is from God’s grace upon us and upon the people, but most of the people are not grateful.
[12:68] When they entered from where their father had ordered them. It had not been to help them anything against God, except a need in desire of Jacob he had carried out it. And indeed, he was a possessor of knowledge what we had taught him, but most of the people do not know.
[19:6] “He (heir) will inherit me (Zachariah) and will inherit of a family of Jacob, and make him pleasing my Lord.”
[19:49] Then when he (Abraham) had abandoned them and what they worship other than God, and we had bestowed to him Isaac and Jacob, and we had made each a prophet.
[21:72] And we had granted to him Isaac, and Jacob as a gift, and each we had made righteous.
[29:27] And we had granted to him (Abraham) Isaac and Jacob, and we had placed in his descendants the prophethood and the scripture, and we had given him his reward in the world, and indeed, in the Hereafter he will surely be with the righteous.
[38:45] Remember our servants: Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, possessors of the firmness and the vision.
- 8. Joseph has been mentioned 27 times by name in the Quran found in 26 verses across 3 His step brothers were jealous of him and threw him in a well but he was saved and brought to Egypt where he grew up and God taught him interpretation of statements. The lady sought to seduce him and plotted to put him in the prison for disobeying her order. He was freed from the prison for appropriate interpretation of statements and the king gave him an honorable position when he was proven innocent and found honest. Thus, God established him and his family in Egypt, and his forefathers were Abraham, Isaac and Jacob:
[6:84] And we had granted to him (Abraham) Isaac and Jacob – all we had guided. And Noah we had guided before of (them), and of his descendants: David, and Solomon, and Job, and Joseph, and Moses, and Aaron. And thus that we reward the gooddoers.
[12:4] When Joseph said to his father, “O my father, .indeed, I have seen eleven stars, and the sun, and the moon; I have seen them prostrating before me.”
[12:7] Certainly, there had been signs in Joseph and his brothers for the questioners.
[12:8] When they said, “Surely, Joseph and his brother are more beloved to our father than we, while we are a party. Indeed, our father surely is in clear error.
[12:9] Kill Joseph, or cast him to a land, to be free for you to your father’s face, and you would be after that a people of righteous.”
[12:10] One of them said, “Do not kill Joseph and throw him into bottom of the well, some traveler may pick him up, if you have done as the doers.”
[12:11] They said, “O, our father, do you not trust us with Joseph? And indeed, we are surely well-wishers for him.
[12:17] They said, “O our father, indeed, we had gone racing each other and had left Joseph with our possessions, then the wolf had eaten him. And you cannot be of a believer for us, even if we have been truthful ones.”
[12:21] And said to his wife who had bought him from Egypt, “Make comfortable his stay. It may have been that he will benefit us or we will take him as a son.” And thus that we had established Joseph in the earth, and that we teach him of interpreting the statements. And God is Dominant over His affair, but most of the people do not know.
[12:29] Joseph, you turn away from this. And you (his wife) shall ask forgiveness of your sin. Indeed, you have been of the sinful ones.”
[12:46] Joseph, O the truthful one, explain to us about seven fat cows to eat them seven thin cows, and seven green ears and others dry that I may return to the people so that they know.”
[12:51] He said, “What was your affair when you had sought to seduce Joseph from himself?” They said, “Praise to God; we do not know any evil about him.” The governor’s wife said, “Now the truth has prevailed. I had sought to seduce him from himself, and indeed, he is surely of the truthful ones.
[12:56] And thus that we have established Joseph in the earth to settle therein wherever he willed. We bestow our mercy upon whomever we will, and we do not let go waste a reward of the good-doers.
[12:58] And there had come Joseph’s brothers, then they entered upon him; he had recognized them, while they were not knowers of him.
[12:69] And when they had entered upon Joseph, he took his brother to himself. He said, “Indeed, I am your brother; so you do not grieve for what they had done to carry out.”
[12:76] So he had begun with their bags before his brother’s bag, then he had brought it out from his brother’s bag. Thus that we had planned for Joseph; he could not have taken his brother by law of the king, except that God wills. We raise decrees for whomever we will, and are Knower over every possessor of knowledge.
[12:77] They said, “If he steals, then certainly a brother of him had stolen before.” And Joseph had concealed it within himself, and did not reveal it to them. He said, “You are in awkward position, and God knows best of what you describe.”
[12:80] Then when they had despaired of him, they had engaged in discussion. Their eldest said, “Do you not know that your father certainly had taken a promise by God upon you, and before you had failed about Joseph? So I will not leave the place until my father permits me or God judges for me, and He is the best Judge.
[12:84] And he had turned away from them, and said, “Oh, my grief over Joseph.” And his eyes have turned white from the grief that he was a suppressor.
[12:85] They said, “By God, you will not cease to remember Joseph until you would become seriously ill, or would become of the dead.”
[12:87] O my sons, go to inquire about Joseph and his brother, and you do not despair of God’s grace; indeed, none despairs of God’s grace except the disbelieving people.”
[12:89] He said, “Do you know what you have done with Joseph and his brother when you were ignorant?”
[12:90] They said, “Are you indeed, surely you, Joseph?” He said, “I am Joseph, and this is my brother. Indeed, God has been gracious upon us. Indeed he, whoever fears God and is patient, then indeed, God does not let go waste a reward of the good-doers.”
[12:94] And when the caravan departed, their father said, “Indeed, I can find a smell of Joseph, if not that you may think me weakened in mind?”
[12:99] Then when they had entered upon Joseph, he took his parents to himself, and said, “Enter Egypt God willing safe.”
[40:34] And certainly, there had come to you Joseph before with the clear proofs, then you had not ceased in doubt from what he had brought to you with him until when he had died; you said, “God will not raise a messenger after of him. Thus that God lets go astray whoever he is a doubtful transgressor.
- 9. Job has been mentioned 4 times by name in the Quran found in 4 verses across 4 surahs. He has been tested with health and family and has been restored with better health and family after a test upon imploring God to remove his affliction:
[4:163] Indeed, we have inspired to you (Muhammad) like that we had inspired to Noah, and the prophets after of him. And we had inspired to Abraham, and Ismail, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and Jesus, and Job, and Jonah, and Aaron, and Solomon. And we had given David Psalms.
[6:84] And we had granted to him (Abraham) Isaac and Jacob – all we had guided. And Noah we had guided before of (them), and of his descendants: David, and Solomon, and Job, and Joseph, and Moses, and Aaron. And thus that we reward the gooddoers.
[21:83] And Job when he called his Lord that the adversity has touched me and you have mercy, the Merciful one.
[38:41] Remember our servant Job: he called upon his Lord that the devil has afflicted me with illness and pain.
Peaceful Friday, salaam and God bless.
