Verses in Quran referring to the names of 20 prophets-III

  • 4. Ismail has been mentioned 12 times by name in the Quran found in 12 verses across 8 surahs. He along with his father Abraham raised the foundations of the Ka’ba and asked God to accept it from them. He had been pleased to put down his forehead to be sacrificed in the cause of God. He had been truthful to his promise and had enjoined his people to establish the salat prayer and to pay the zakat, while he had been pleasing to his Lord:

[2:125] And when we had made the House a place of return for mankind and a security; and you shall take a standing place of Abraham as a place of prayer. And we had made a covenant with Abraham and Ismail that you shall purify My House for those who circumambulate, and those who devote themselves, and those who bow and prostrate.

[2:127] And when Abraham raises the foundations of the House and Ismail: “Our Lord, accept from us. Indeed, You are the Hearer, the Knower.”

[2:133] Or had you been witnesses when the death had come to Jacob; when he said to his children, “What will you worship after of me?” They said, “We will worship your god; god of your forefathers: Abraham, and Ismail, and Isaac – One god. And to Him we are submitters.”

[2:136] Say, “We have believed in God, and what has been sent down to us, and what has been sent down to Abraham and Ismail and Isaac and Jacob and the Patriarchs; and what has been given to Moses and Jesus, and what has been given to the prophets from their Lord. We do not make distinction between anyone of them. And we are Submitters to Him.”

[2:140] Or do you say that Abraham, and Ismail, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs had been Jews or Christians? Say, “Are you better knower or God?” And who is more unjust than whoever has concealed a testimony with him from God? And God is not unaware of what you do.”

[3:84] Say, “We have believed in God, and what has been sent down to us, and what has been sent down to Abraham, and Ismail, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and what has been given to Moses, and Jesus, and the prophets from their Lord. We do not make distinction between anyone of them, and we are submitters to Him.”

[4:163] Indeed, we have inspired to you (Muhammad) as we had inspired to Noah, and the prophets after of him. And we had inspired to Abraham, and Ismail, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and Jesus, and Job, and Jonah, and Aaron, and Solomon. And we had given David Psalms.

[6:86] And Ismail, Elisha, Jonah, and Lot, and all we had preferred over the people of the world.

[14:39] All praise to God who has granted to me (Abraham) Ismail and Isaac in the old age; indeed, my Lord is surely Hearer of the prayer.

[19:54] And recall Ismail in the scripture. Indeed, he had been truthful to the promise and had been a messenger, a prophet.

[21:85] And Ismail, and Idris, and Dhul-Kifl; all were among the patient ones.

[38:48] And remember Ismail, and Elisha, and Dhul-Kifl; all were among the best.

  • 5. Isaac has been mentioned 17 times by name in the Quran found in 16 verses across 12 Isaac has been granted to Abraham at the old age and his wife had laughed when the angels gave Abraham a good news of Isaac and Jacob after Isaac. The prophethood and the scripture were placed in their descendants, while there are good-doer and wrong-doers among their descendants, and the present day Jews and the Christians are the descendants of Isaac and Jacob:

[3:84] Say, “We have believed in God, and what has been sent to us, and what has been sent down to Abraham, and Ismail, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and what has been given to Moses, and Jesus, and the prophets from their Lord.

[6:84] And we had granted to him (Abraham) Isaac and Jacob – all we had guided. And Noah we had guided before of (them), and of his descendants: David, and Solomon, and Job, and Joseph, and Moses, and Aaron. And thus that we reward the gooddoers.

[11:71] His wife was standing, so she laughed while we had given her a good news of Isaac, and Jacob after Isaac.

[12:6] And thus that your Lord chooses you (Joseph) and teaches you of interpreting the statements and completes His favor upon you and upon a family of Jacob as what He had completed it upon your two forefathers before – Abraham and Isaac. Indeed, your Lord is Knower, Wise.”

[12:38] And I (Joseph) have followed a religion of my forefathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It has not been for us that we associate anything with God. That is from God’s grace upon us and upon the people, but most of the people are not grateful.

[14:39] All praise to God who has granted to me (Abraham) Ismail and Isaac in the old age; indeed, my Lord is surely Hearer of the prayer.

[19:49] Then when he (Abraham) had abandoned them and what they worship other than God, and we had bestowed to him Isaac and Jacob, and we had made each a prophet.

[21:72] And we had granted to him (Abraham) Isaac, and Jacob as a gift, and each we had made righteous.

[29:27] And we had granted to him (Abraham) Isaac and Jacob, and we had placed in his descendants the prophethood and the scripture, and we had given him his reward in the world, and indeed, in the Hereafter he will surely be with the righteous.

[37:112] And we had given him (Abraham) a good news of Isaac, a prophet among the righteous.

[37:113] And we had blessed upon him (Abraham) and upon Isaac. And of their offspring there is good-doer and clear wrongdoer to his soul.

[38:45] Remember our servants: Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, possessors of the firmness and the vision.

  • 6. Lot has been mentioned 27 times by name spelled out his name in two forms in the Quran found in 27 verses across 14 He was chosen over the people of the world. The people of Lot were most corrupted and what they had done did not do any other people of the world, and his people were destroyed by a storm of stones. God has set an example of the disbelievers with wife of Lot and wife of Noah, who were said to enter the fire.

[6:86] And Ismail, Elisha, Jonah, and Lot, and all we had preferred over the people of the world.

[7:80] And Lot when he said to his people, “Do you commit the immorality has not preceded with it  anyone among a people of the world?

[11:70] Then when he (Abraham) had seen not reaching their hands to it, he had become confused and had a fear from them. They said, “Do not fear; indeed, we have been sent to a people of Lot.”

[11:74] Then when the fright had gone away from Abraham, and the good news had reached him, he argued with us about a people of Lot.

[11:77] And when there had come our messengers (angels) to Lot, and he had been grieved for them and had felt discomfort for them, and said, “This is a distressful.”

[11:81] They (angels) said, “O Lot, we are messengers of your Lord, they cannot reach you. So you shall travel with your family in a part of the night, and let not anyone of you look back, except your wife; indeed, it will be a strike of her what has struck them. Indeed, their appointed time is the morning. Has not it been the morning to near?”

[11:89] And O my (Shuaib) people, let not my dissension commit you sin lest there befalls you like what had befallen a people of Noah, or a people of Hud, or a people of Saleh, nor a people of Lot, is far off from you.

[15:59] Except a family of Lot; indeed, we will surely be saving them all.

[15:61] Then when there had come the sent ones to a family of Lot.

[21:71] And we had saved him (Abraham from fire) and Lot to the land that we had blessed in it the people of the world.

[21:74] And Lot, we had given him wisdom and knowledge, and we had saved him from the town which had done to commit wicked deeds; indeed, they had been a people of evil, disobedient.

[22:43] And (denied) a people of Abraham, and a people of Lot.

[26:160] A people of Lot had denied the sent ones.

[26:161] When said to them their brother Lot, “Will you not fear (God)?

[26:167] They said, “Surely, if you do not refrain, O Lot, you will be of those who are driven out.”

[27:54] And Lot when he said to his people, “Do you commit the immorality, while you see?

[27:56] Then there had been no response of his people except that they said, “Drive out a family of Lot from your town; indeed, they are a people to keep (us) clean and pure.”

[29:26] Then Lot believed with him (Abraham) and said, “Indeed, I am an emigrant to my Lord. Indeed, He is the Almighty, the Wise.”

[29:28] And Lot when he said to his people, “Indeed, you surely commit the immorality has not preceded anyone with it among a people of the world.

[29:32] He (Abraham) said, “Indeed, in it is Lot.” They (angels) said, “We are knower of whoever is in it. Surely, we will save him and his family, except his wife; she has been among those who remain behind.”

[29:33] And when that our messengers had come to Lot, he has been distressed and has felt uncomfortable with them, while they said, “Do not fear, nor do you grieve. Indeed, we are savers of you and your family except your wife; she has been with those who remain behind.

[37:133] And IndeedLot was surely one of the sent ones.

[38:13] And Thamud, and a people of Lot, and dwellers of the Woods; those were the opponents.

[50:13] And Aad, and Pharaoh, and brethren of Lot.

[54:33] There had denied a people of Lot of the warnings.

[54:34] Indeed, we had sent upon them a storm of stones except a family of Lot, we had saved them by dawn.

[66:10] God has set an example for those who have disbelieved are wife of Noah and wife of Lot. They had been married to two of our righteous servants, but they had betrayed them, so, they could not help them in anything against God, and it had been said to them, “Enter the Fire with the comers.”

Peaceful Friday, salaam and God bless.
