Verses in Quran referring to the names of 20 prophets-II

  • 3. Abraham has been mentioned 69 times by name spelled out his name in two forms in the Quran found in 63 verses across 25 surahs. God has chosen him in the world, and he will be with the righteous in the Hereafter. He and Ismail had raised the foundations of the Ka’ba, the Sacred Masjid in Mecca, and God had named him to be a father of Muslims, and had saved him from the fire as well as called him when he put down the forehead of his son to sacrifice. He had confirmed the Resurrection asking a proof from God for himself as well as for ourselves. He had established an example of worshiping God alone, even dissociating and denying those as the enemy forever until they had believed in God alone. God had responded to his prayer and granted him Ismail and Isaac in the old age, while he had made a mistake to promise to his father who had been an idol worshiper and an enemy of God that he will ask God for his forgiveness:

[2:124] And when his Lord had tested Abraham with words, then he had fulfilled them. He said, “Indeed, I am One who makes you a leader for mankind.” He said, “Also from my descendants?” He said, “My covenant does not reach the wrongdoers.”

[2:125] And when we had made the House a place of return for mankind and a security; and you shall take a standing place of Abraham as a place of prayer. And we had made a covenant with Abraham and Ismail that you shall purify My House for those who circumambulate, and those who devote themselves, and those who bow and prostrate.

[2:126] And when Abraham said: “My Lord, make this city secure and provide its people with fruits to whoever has believed in God and the Last Day.” He said, “And whoever has disbelieved, then I will grant him a little enjoyment, then I will force him to a punishment of the Fire, and it has been evil is the destination.”

[2:127] And when Abraham raises the foundations of the House and Ismail: “Our Lord, accept from us. Indeed, You are the Hearer, the Knower.”

[2:130] And who turns away from a religion of Abraham, except whoever has fooled himself? And certainly, we have chosen him in the world and indeed, in the Hereafter surely, he will be with the righteous.

[2:132] And Abraham had enjoined his children with it, and Jacob: “O my children, indeed, God has chosen the religion for you; so you do not die except, while you are submitters.”

[2:133] Or had you been witnesses when the death had come to Jacob; when he said to his children, “What will you worship after of me?” They said, “We will worship your god; god of your forefathers: Abraham, and Ismail, and Isaac – One god. And to Him we are submitters.”

[2:135] And they said, “Be Jewish or Christians to be guided.” Say, “Nay, a religion of Abraham – Monotheism, and he had not been with the idol worshipers.”

[2:136] Say, “We have believed in God, and what has been sent down to us, and what has been sent down to Abraham and Ismail and Isaac and Jacob and the Patriarchs; and what has been given to Moses and Jesus, and what has been given to the prophets from their Lord. We do not make distinction between anyone of them. And we are Submitters to Him.”

[2:140] Or do you say that Abraham, and Ismail, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs had been Jews or Christians? Say, “Are you better knower or God?” And who is more unjust than whoever has concealed a testimony with him from God? And God is not unaware of what you do.”

[2:258] Did you not see to one who had argued with Abraham about his Lord that God had given him the kingdom? When Abraham said, “My Lord is One who grants life and causes death.” He (the king) said, “I grant life and causes death.” Abraham said, “So, indeed, God brings the sun from the east, then bring it from the west.” So, one who had disbelieved had been stumped. And God does not guide the people who are the wrongdoers.

[2:260] And when Abraham said, “My Lord, show me how You give life to the dead.” He said, “Do you not believe?” He said, “Yes, but to satisfy my heart.” He said, “So, take four of the birds, then incline them towards you, then place a piece from them on each hill, then call them, they will come to you in hurry, and you shall know that God is Almighty, Wise.”

[3:33] Indeed, God has chosen Adam, and Noah, and family of Abraham, and family of Amran among the people of the world.

[3:65] O people of the scripture, why do you argue about Abraham, while there had not been sent down the Torah and the Gospel except after of him? Do you not then use intellect?”

[3:67] Abraham had neither been a Jew, nor a Christian; but he had been a Submitter of Monotheism, and He had not been with the idol worshipers.

[3:68] Indeed, best are the people of Abraham surely those who have followed him and this prophet, and those who have believed, and God is a Protector of the believers.

[3:84] Say, “We have believed in God, and what has been sent down to us, and what has been sent down to Abraham, and Ismail, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and what has been given to Moses, and Jesus, and the prophets from their Lord. We do not make distinction between anyone of them, and we are submitters to Him.”

[3:95] Say, “God has proclaimed truth that you shall follow a religion of Abraham – Monotheism, and he had not been with the idol worshipers.”

[3:97] In it there are clear signs, a standing place of Abraham, and whoever has entered it has made safe. And for God upon the people is pilgrimage to the House, whoever has been able to make a path to it, and whoever has disbelieved, then indeed, God has sufficiency than the people of the world.

[4:54] Or do they envy the people for what God has given them from His bounty? Certainly, we have given a family of Abraham the scripture and the wisdom, and we have given them a great kingdom.

[4:125] And who has better religion than whoever has submitted himself to God, and he is a good-doer and has followed a religion of Abraham – Monotheism? And God has taken Abraham as a friend.

[4:163] Indeed, we have inspired to you (Muhammad) as we had inspired to Noah, and the prophets after of him. And we had inspired to Abraham, and Ismail, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and Jesus, and Job, and Jonah, and Aaron, and Solomon. And we had given David Psalms.

[6:74] When Abraham said to his father Azar, “Do you take idols as gods? I see you and your people are in far astray.”

[6:75] Thus that we showed Abraham a kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and that he would be among the ascertainers.

[6:83] And that was our argument we had given it to Abraham against his people. We raise to higher ranks whomever we will. Indeed, your Lord is Wise, Knower.

[6:161] Say, “Indeed me (Muhammad), my Lord has guided me to a path to straight, an established religion, a religion of Abraham – Monotheism. And he had not been with the idol worshipers.”

[9:70] Does not come to them a news of those who were before of them a people of Noah, and Aad, and Thamud, and a people of Abraham, and dwellers of Madyan, and the overturned towns? There had come to them their messengers with the clear proofs. Then it had not been God that He would wrong them but they had done to wrong to themselves.

[9:114] And it has not been Abraham of asking forgiveness for his father except from a promise he had promised it to him. Then when it had become clear to him that he is an enemy of God, he had disassociated from him. Indeed, Abraham was compassionate, kind.

[11:69] And certainly, there had come our messengers (angels) to Abraham with the good news, they said, “Peace.” He said, “Peace,” then he had not delayed to bring a roasted calf.

[11:74] Then when the fright had gone away from Abraham, and the good news had reached him, he argued with us about a people of Lot.

[11:75] Indeed, Abraham was surely forbearing, imploring, turning.

[11:76] “O Abraham, you shall turn away from this. Indeed, it has certainly come a command of your Lord, and indeed, a punishment will be coming to them without being a prevented one.”

[12:6] And thus that your Lord chooses you and teaches you of interpreting the statements and completes His favor upon you and upon a family of Jacob as what He had completed it upon your two forefathers before – Abraham and Isaac. Indeed, your Lord is Knower, Wise.”

[12:38] And I (Joseph) have followed a religion of my forefathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It has not been for us that we associate anything with God. That is from God’s grace upon us and upon the people, but most of the people are not grateful.

[14:35] And when Abraham said, “My Lord, make this, the city secure, and keep me away and my children that we worship the idols.

[15:51] And you shall inform them about guests of Abraham.

[16:120] Indeed, Abraham has been a community of Monotheism being obedient to God, and he was not with the idol-worshipers.

[16:123] Then we have inspired to you (Muhammad) that you shall follow a religion of Abraham, Monotheism; and he had not been with the idol worshipers.

[19:41] And recall Abraham in the scripture. Indeed, he had been a saint, a prophet.

[19:46] He (Abraham’s father) said, “Are you a hater from my gods, O Abraham? Surely, if you do not stop, surely, I will stone you. So leave me alone.”

[19:58] Those are whom God has bestowed favor upon them of the prophets from descendants of Adam, and of whoever we had carried with Noah, and from descendants of Abraham and Israel, and of whoever we had guided and had chosen. When was recited to them revelations of the Gracious, they had fallen as prostrators and in weeping.

[21:51] And certainly, we had given Abraham guidance of him before, and we had been Knower of him.

[21:60] They said, “We have heard a youth mentioning of them; he is called Abraham.”

[21:62] They said, “Have you done this with our gods, O Abraham?”

[21:69] We had said, “O fire, be cool and safe on Abraham.”

[22:26] And when we had assigned a site of the House to Abraham that you shall not associate anything with Me and shall purify My House for those who circumambulate, and those who stand, and those who bow and those who prostrate.

[22:43] And (denied) a people of Abraham, and a people of Lot.

[22:78] And you shall strive in God of His true striving. He has chosen you (mankind) and has not made any difficulty upon you in the religion, a religion of your father Abraham. He (God) has named you the Submitters before and in this (Quran) that the messenger would be a witness over you, and you would be witnesses over the people. So you shall establish the salat prayer and shall give the zakat, and shall hold fast to God. He is your Protector that He has been the excellent Protector and has been the excellent Supporter.

[26:69] You shall recite to them a news of Abraham.

[29:16] And Abraham, when he said to his people, “You shall worship God and shall fear Him. That is better for you if you have done to know.

[29:31] And when there had come our messengers to Abraham with the good news, they said, “We are going to destroy a people of this town; indeed, its people have been wrongdoers.”

[33:7] And when we had taken from the prophets their covenant, and from you (Muhammad), and from Noah, and Abraham, and Moses, and Jesus, son of Mary. And we had taken from them a solemn covenant.

[37:83] And indeed, of his (Noah) successor was surely Abraham.

[37:104] And we had called him that O Abraham.

[37:109] Peace upon Abraham.

[38:45] Remember our servants: Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, possessors of the firmness and the vision.

[42:13] He has decreed for you of the religion what He had enjoined Noah with it, and which we have inspired to you (Muhammad), and what we had enjoined Abraham, and Moses, and Jesus of it that you shall establish the religion and not dividing in it. It has been difficult for the idolaters which you (Muhammad) call them to it. God chooses to Himself whomever He wills and He guides to Himself whoever turns (to Him).

[43:26] And when Abraham said to his father and his people, “Indeed, I am free from what you worship.

[51:24] Has there come to you a story of the honored guests of Abraham?

[53:37] And Abraham is one who has fulfilled.

[57:26] And certainly, we had sent Noah and Abraham, and we had placed the prophethood and the scripture among their descendants; then of them there was guided one, while most of them were disobedient.

[60:4] Certainly, there has been a good example for you in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, “Indeed, we are in dissociation from you and from what you worship other than God. We have denied in you, and there has appeared the enmity and the hatred forever between us and you until you believe in God alone,” except saying of Abraham to his father, “Surely, I will ask forgiveness for you, but I do not have power of anything for you from God. Our Lord, upon You we have put trust, and to You we have turned, and to You is the final return.

[87:19] Scriptures of Abraham and Moses.
